Vintage Monday - Sprites or Pixies?

Last week I wandered around my favorite thrift store looking for treasures.....I spied some embroidery peeking out of the racks of linens....I rushed over to take a look and BINGO! ...
treasure found.
I first saw the Wednesday towel and searched through the racks hoping to find all the days of the week, or in other words....the full set.
They were all there....lucky me.
The work put into them is worth admiring....down to the stitching around the edges in light turquoise...so cute. They are in excellent condition and I'm sure that they have never been used.
Scroll down and see for yourself....click on the pictures for close up detail:)

I'm not so sure what the little creatures are....sprites or pixies or maybe something else.
What do you think?
I think they look like outer space pigs in elf shoes.....but cute vintagey ones!

So sad to think someone put all that work into them only to have them end up at a thrift store. Glad they found a good home with you!

I guess I would call them sprites! Whatever they are, they're darling!

They could be what was called "brownies". They sure are cute!

What an awesome thrift store you have. You always find great stuff.
I don't know what you call those little critters but they are cute.

I would just say that they are darling whatever they are! If I have to vote I would say space pigs... I think they were very popular in the 50's! Besides what exactly is a Sprite (we know what space pigs are!)

They do rather look like cute little piggies! That was quite a find. I'd have grabbed them up. I've done my fair share of embroidering, and that's a lot of time taken up in those pretties.

Okay, Lori, how much did these little gems cost? I bet not much.

It makes it more fun when it's a bargain! ;0

Gee I like visiting here! I can't believe the "bargains" you find. I would never ever find anything like this.
I'm lucky to find a thrift shop!

I love your find! They were there just waiting for you to come take them home.
My vote is... they are pixies! Sprites and pixies are very simular. The difference is, sprites are smaller and slimmer than pixies. Sprites tend to have more round faces with upturned noses and squinty eyes. Pixies have a small point on their ear rather than the long evilish points of a sprite. What ever they are...they are simply adorable! So happy that they found a home with you!

Lori - those pixie's looked very familiar to me and sent me digging thru my cedar chest. I have a set of dish towels just like them. I made them when I was VERY young. Instead of embroidery, I painted them with Tri-chem paints. What will you do with the ones you found?

So cute! I love floursack dish towels, especially embroidered ones.

Thanks for the great memory. My mother made some like those. I remember using them when I was a kid doing the dishes. They made that job just a little bit nicer. I had forgotten all about them.
