I Heart Vintage Sheets!...

Summertime is vintage sheet season.
I have sewn with and collected
vintage sheets for a long time now...
I know alot of you out there
in bloggy land do too:)

There's just something so wonderfully sentimental about them...

The colors are sweet and the fabrics are so vintagey and comforting:)

I pick them up for a song at thrift shops... and I have also purchased some vintage sheet fat quarters online for a
good variety in my projects.

And I love it when I find pillow cases that are in excellent condition...
I  bring them home and give them a good washing and a hanging out on the line...
I put them on a big fluffy pillow to enduce sweet dreams of days gone by:)

This summer I am making what I call a
Quee-ing size quilt out of
vintage sheets for my bed...
so that I can be sure to have
sweet vintagey dreams.
(a quee-ing size is in between
a queen & king...lol)

I found two of these same vintage
flat sheets in a double size...
I will use them for the back of my quilt and still have enough leftover to cut some squares to use in the flimsy.

I just love the gorgeous vintage floral...

And these 3 are my favorite.
I have several flat sheets in these
prints to use for quilt backing also.

And I'll need them because Kassidy wants to make one for her bed too...and we both thought we would like to make one for Sophie Belle.

Speaking of Sophie...this is her...
(and Kassidy holding her up there)
on the carousal in the park
for the 4th of July celebration.
I havn't showed you a picture
of her lately and I wanted you to see
 how big she is getting!

Luckily I have plenty of sheets...and plenty of sheets = plenty of squares for a quilt top for Sophie as well.

I want my quilts to be simple to show off the large florals in most of the sheets...
so I am cutting 9 1/2" squares to piece together for the tops.
After I cut the squares from my vintage sheet fat quarters...
I cut the remaining fabric into strips for another project that I have in mind:)

BTW...in case you didn't know there is a vintage sheet blog that showcases
projects that are made out of vintage sheets.
It's a beautiful blog that is
run by Jen.
Go check it out HERE!
There really are alot of fun projects to inspire a trip to the thrift shop...
I'm just sayin!
How about you?...
Do you heart vintage sheets?
Have a quilty kind of day my friends:)
xx

I just found a pillow case in theat top floral from your three favorites. Teenaged daughter has claimed it for her bed for the moment. I guess it can go into a quilt once she gets bored!

I was reading another blog and saw a reference to "Vintage Designer Sheets" and wondered if that was anything like "Sheets from Goodwill". Yes. Yes, it is! I found a wonderful flannel flat twin size sheet with moose, bear, wolves, canoes, etc. to match a quilt top with similar designs - karma! I also found lovely florals and plaids and one duvet cover with poke-your-eye-out bright stripes on one side and wild color blocks on the other (a two-fer!).

Look how big Sophie has gotten!
And in the first pic, I used to have the main sheet on my bed! Does that make me Vintage?

Lori, I just posted about an amazing box I received in the mail. Renee from Sewn with Grace sent me all of her vintage sheets! I am in vintage sheet heaven :-) Vintage sheets are very scarce in my area, so they are hard to come by (reasonably). Check it out -

I love you blog! The tutorials are great and have helped me out so much! Now, you tell me what to do with those old sheets I've had for ages! I have a bag out in the garage that I was going to toss or donate. Now, I can make something with them! Makes me sick that I have used them for drop cloths in the past when painting. Thanks for all the tips!

BTW, the link to the blog didn't work. I would love to visit.

Seriously?! Does it get any cuter than that? What sweet dreams you must have when you sleep on those lovely sheets.
May I ask you a question? I found a vintage sheet at the thrift store, still in it's original package (if you can imagine that) and it is 50% polyester/50% cotton. Is that typical or do you find 100% cotton?
Sincerely, Trish

I love them. I just purchased a queen sized BEAUTIFUL vintage sheet for the back of my sew cherry cheesecake. Which I picked up from the quilter this morning before work. It is still in the bag. I had a peek. The cherry pattern is darling on it. Anyway I can't wait to get it bound and show you how cute it turned out. Red gingham here I come.

This is so timely! I just made a table runner out of vintage sheet scraps last night. When my sister (Nicole of Sister's Choice blog) saw my blog post she sent me over here. "Wonderfully sentimental" captures exactly how I feel about vintage sheets.

Ok, now I have to hit resale shops for sheets. LOL That is a great idea for the backs of quilts.
