The Bee in my Bonnet Row Along...Quilt Label and a Bee in my Bonnet Bumble Bee Tutorial!!!...

I'll bet you thought you were finished making blocks for the
didn't you?
Well...guess what???
It's not summer yet and you have a little more time to finish your quilt!

You really didn't think that I would
let you get away without a label for your quilt did you?
Of course not:)
I just had to designed another block
to finish it off perfectly!!!

A bee in my bonnet bumble bee of course...
so that you can remember me
and our fun time rowing along together:)

Lets get started!

Get your bee cut!!!

Start by sewing the stripes together to form the body.
***NOTE the yellow stripe is at top and the gray at the bottom:)

Press towards the gray.

Lay a square on one side of the body segment at the bottom.
Stitch from corner to corner to form an Easy Corner Triangle.

Trim and press towards the triangle.

Repeat for the other side...

Yes...your seams will overlap.
You will be forming a stinger:)

Now sew ECT to the bottom sides of the wings.
Trim and press towards the triangles.

See the cute little stinger?
ow:)
Now sew the rectangles to the bottom of the wings.
Press towards the rectangles.

Then sew the wings to the side of the body like this.
Press towards the wings.

You will be sewing 2 large easy corner triangles across each upper corner.

Use squares...
and because they are larger than the Angler 2 lines...
lightly mark a stitching line from corner to corner with a mechanical pencil.
It will only take a second...
Don't guess because they are large squares and will
easily become distorted if you don't mark them.
Trim and press towards the triangles.

Now let's move onto the head.
Sew ECT onto each side like this.

Trim and press.

Then sew the remaining rectangles to the top and then the sides.
Press towards each rectangle.

Finish up by sewing the head section to the body...
then the remaining background strips to the sides and then the top.

If you want...
you can draw some antennae
(on paper first)
 and then trace them onto
the top of the bee head for embroidery.

You can do the same with the words that you want on your quilt label.

You can see through your background fabric to trace the words
by using a light box or taping them to a window on a sunny day:)

Now choose 4 colorful prints that you have used in your rows and cut them to border the block.
Press all seams towards the print strips.

Your label is almost complete and ready to be stitched onto your backing.
YaY!!!
I'll show you how to finish it up
in the backing tutorial
 later this week.

I will be using this green daisy print for my backing.

In my last post I showed you my outer border fabric....
the medium green gingham by Riley Blake.

I will be using the aqua daisy print for the inner stop border.

I will also be using my
white background fabric for all of the borders.
We will talk about the binding later:)

Today kicks off a week long celebration of
  finishing up the quilt...
ending with a
fun giveaway announcement on Friday!
(so be sure to leave me some bloggy love)

Have a quilty kind of day my friends...
xx
Lori

Such a cute label. I'm only half way done on my rows, but come the first of April, I'll be ready to recommence the blocks.

I was trying to think of a quilt for my sister, I was thinking of doing a basket quilt, but I might do this one instead. The only thing is it needs to be a king size quilt. Do you think I could make it work by adding more borders? Or do you have any suggestions on making it bigger?
Thanks!

I've had such fun with this quilt. I didn't start on it until February 1 and I finished last week - well sorta. I decided that my baskets needed flowers in them so I am now embrodiering flowers and/or vines in all of them. I used my stash of 20 years(with only a couple exceptions) for the entire quilt so it is bright and scrappy. Can't wait to see the borders. Thanks for a wonderful project.

I came late to the Row Along, by way of the Country Barns! I am going to be digging through my stash in search of my "Happy" colors for sure...& see if I can get a friend or two to join me in a "Better Late Than Never" Row Along! The Little Bee is adorable, and the icing on the cake! Thanks also for reminding me that we can trace our lettering on our labels. I constantly get questions about making labels from the girls as work!

Thank you for this wonderful row-a-long quilt. I have been unable to do it but have saved it for the future. I simply love your patterns and your fabric. I have slowly been collecting every collection. I have been working on a quilt using one of the collections. Thank you again Lori.

Someone may have already pointed it out, but I think you need to amend your gray bee stripe size to 1 1/2"x 5 1/2". Right now it is just 1/2" x 5 1/2". It was easy to see from your fantastic photos that it should be (BEE) the same size as the yellow Bee stipes.

Love this quilt. Wish I had started it a long time ago. Off to the sewing room to start pulling fabrics.

This is a cute block! I'm surprised you didn't add this into the quilt for one of the rows. I know it would have been a cute touch to the quilt!

Do you think this block would work to be added as one of the rows?

Thanks for sharing this awesome block! :)

Thank you, thank you... but sad to see it end. I started quilting last July and quilting along with your fabulous row-a-long helped me learn so much. I joined all my rows on the weekend and left it draped over a chair in my sewing area so I could admire it's lovely quirkiness - it made me smile every time I saw it. It will be a keepsake representing the start of a hobby and passion that truly makes me happy. Thank you so much Lori for all your hard work - it was very much appreciated!

I am loving this row-along. Thank you so much for doing this, I am learning so much!!

Just when I think your blog can't get any better you come up with this adorable bee label. Thank you so much for all of the patterns you offer us here. I just returned from a weekend quilt retreat...yeah...and worked on the barn blocks with the quilt square. My friends loved them, and so did my hubby, who has a big red barn. The row along is next for me...had other committments to finish. Such fun!

Great label! I am planning to work on this quilt during my summer break. It is so cute and I can't hardly wait!!

You are so clever Lori.
I loved making my bee. She is just waiting for the words to be added. Your bee would be perfect to go in a gardening themed row along. Bees, tulips, baskets and leaves are designed already. You could add gumboots, a wheelbarrow, other flowers etc.Hint hint.....

Now to start on some barns.

Love, love, love these quilt blocks! The bee is my favorite!

Amazing, just amazing! As I'm reading this post at 6 a.m. I'm sitting in my robe and nightgown, and on my gown there are printed tons of bees...not as cute as yours though! I especially love your label because my son just started keeping bees! Thanks for all your hard work.

Lori, you are incredibly talented and I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed this row along. I have learned so much from you. But, I got everything ready to go and in order and it went quickly via the assembly line.My top is finished nad it is SEW cute and I wlll treasure it always. Thank you for sharing and being sew generous!
