Oopsie Daisy...

Today I wanted to show you another quilt...

It's the quilt we are all doing this year in Clothesline Club.

It's a perfect opportunity for me to use my huge 1930's collection...

And also several vintage feedsacks ....

I love the way that the quilt blocks are set on point ....

And incorporates applique as well as piecing.

My friend Judy brought hers to show at our meeting on Tuesday.

The pattern is called Oopsie Daisy by Darlene Zimmerman.....

Laundry Baskets...

I never met a basket quilt that I didn't like. This one is now quilted and hanging on my family room wall...

...scrappy is happy!

I used 100% cotton ric-rac by Moda and tucked it into the binding...

...which I cut on the bias for a nice finish.

White with green polka-dots for the setting triangles and outside border.

Moda Bella Solid #97 sandwiched between red and yellow for the stop borders...

The pattern is called "Laundry Baskets" by Fig Tree Quilts and my quilty friend Helen Brutch did the fabulous quilting.

These bright colored scrappy baskets makes it look like spring in my Family Room....even though we had a huge snow storm here on Monday...I think spring will eventually get here!

Sunny Days ahead !...

These are blossoms from my cherry trees out in front of my home....

So soft and full and gorgeously pink...cherry blossoms are my favorite I think.

I know they will be gone by next week...but I sure have enjoyed them while they were here. We planted four of them fifteen years ago... don't you just love pretty pink trees all in a row?

The last of the spring tulips....

I love how this white tulip looks from the top view...it's almost spent ....the weather is getting warmer here and it's time for sunny days ahead!

This is the early blooms of my giant snowball bush...I adore how the blossoms start out bright green and then gradually mature into a lucious white later in the season.

Two books and two blogs to share...

Okay...more about the strawberries from yesterday's post but first....I want to share with you a "new to me" blog by the very creative and talented Anita.
Her blog is called My Country Cottage Garden and I found it while I was visiting my friend Maryjane at Beehive Cottage.

Anita's blog caught my eye because I noticed on Maryjanes sidebar a picture like the little strawberries that I had made.....I clicked on over to find out that Anita had made some too!
I'm so glad that I found her. Her blog is wonderful and I added it onto my sidebar as fast as I could so that I didn't miss anything that she posted.

I have been following Maryjanes blog for a long time. You may have noticed the link on my sidebar already. She has become my friend through blogging.
We have alot in common and she is so sweet. Her blog is absolutely fabulous and so is she!

Go over to visit both Maryjane and Anita...tell them I sent you and give them a big Howdy from me!

Now for the strawberries and the first book that I want to share with you. It has been on my shelf for quite some time now....I'm going to give you a peek of the back cover first...it's as beautiful as the front cover.

This is the book that has the pattern in it for the strawberries.

The book is called "Sew Pretty Homestyle"......what can I say about it except...I heart it!

It's by a Norwegian designer by the name of Tone Finnanger. The name of her company is Tilda.....cute huh? She designs alot of very beautiful things to make with a comfy cozy feel.

Her book is gorgeous to look at and has several very tempting projects. I have made these flowers in a variety of sizes...

...and these sleeping masks have Kassidy's vote for our next sew night project because she sleeps with one every night!....

The next book is one that I just picked up last week..."Schnibbles Times Two" by Carrie Nelson.I'm sure that you have all seen it floating around on other quilty blogs...

I really love this flying geese quilt above called "Open Season"....I'm thinking Carrie must have a goose hunting husband too!

This is the first quilt that I'd like to make out of the book and it happens to be the one featured on the front cover.

Carrie's book is perfectly quilty and perfect for using pre-cuts like charm packs (5" squares) and layer cakes (10" squares).

I'm partial to Layer Cakes myself and have quite a collection... (you can see some of them in the above photo)....

I like to keep my layer cakes rolled up in a cupboard for easy access and I like the way that they look like yummy patchwork cinnamon rolls.

I really should start using up my layer cakes at a faster rate than I collect them...lol...

Maybe Carrie's book will help me out with that situation!

I've already bottled several of them...in a 2 quart jar...lol!

Set some out in my vintagey red dish...

Filled up my favorite pink bowl edged with cherries....

...but today..."Life is just a bowl of strawberrys!"

Kassidy plays Hopscotch...

I wanted to show you my new block that I designed last week for my "Paper Doll" quilt. (whoops...sorry the pic is a little crooked)
I will be teaching it tomorrow at Material Girls in South Jordan.
We are about 3/4 of the way finished with the class with the last class being in August.
The pattern will be available for purchase then.

I am designing this quilt with my daughter (Kassidy) and my grandaughter (Sophie) names but all of the blocks are from my childhood memories.

Hopscotch, jump rope and jacks were some of my favorite things to do at recess. I also liked to play 4-square...play on the giant teeter-totters and climb the monkey bars...but they didn't fit into the block...lol

I put a necklace on the dress because I remember jumping rope and my necklace used to hit me in the face until I would finally stop and tuck it into my collar.

I also remember all of the fun jump rope rhymes that we would recite together while jumping and then going straight into "Red Hot Peppers"!...

The dress (along with all of the clothing in the quilt) looks like a dress that my Mom made for me...or maybe one of my 3 older sisters...because I am the fourth daughter, I got to wear all of thier hand me downs!

I grew up in a very small and rural town and attended elementary school in the same 3 room schoolhouse that my mother and her parents (my grandparents) attended as children.
It was called Herriman Elementary and I loved that school and my teachers and classmates. We were all very close.

My mom was always at the sewing machine making us girls "school dresses". We had to wear a dress to school every day because that was the rule until they changed it when I was in 4th grade (1972) so that us girls could finally wear pants.
Before that time, I always wore shorts under my dress so that I wasn't limited on what I could do at recess...(remember the before mentioned monkey bars?...lol)
