It all started last month when I was visiting Amy's (Mrs.Schmenkman) blog and saw this fabulous tutorial.
Amy had been inspired by Sarah to do the tutorial and start her own butterfly quilt.
Amy had been inspired by Sarah to do the tutorial and start her own butterfly quilt.
So I made plans to start on it when I got home from my retreat at the cabin.
At the retreat...my friend Nedra (Cactus-Needle) sat right next to me and happen to be working on the same butterfly blocks...she had seen Amy's tutorial too!
I loved it so much that I told her that it was first on my list when I got home.
I really didn't have time to start another quilt but I did it anyway!....I cut a few blocks....(okay maybe more than a few... about 50 so far!)...

I saw that Belinda (Brown Dirt Cottage) is using brown too....also ...you should check out Pam's (Pam Kitty Morning) blocks...she's using polka dot...so adorable.
I have to take it off my design wall now so that I can work on other things more pressing...who knows when I'll be able to get back to it?...Maybe on my next retreat in the fall.
I guess that would work out great because I think my blocks look very fall-ish with the brown background don't you?....I think I"ll call my quilt "Butterflies in Autumn"...what do you think?
That's the best title and it is an adorable quilt!
ReplyDeleteLove it! So glad you started it!
ReplyDeleteI like it! Your fabric choices look great on the dark background.
ReplyDeleteI love it when we are working on the same quilt together.
ReplyDeleteThe brown looks wonderful. I am going to try and make samples up in various fabric backgrounds just to see how they turn out. (I like this quilt that much!)
I think it is so fun to be working on a quilt the same time as a friend. I love the brown gingham and the brown background. It really makes the colors pop! So glad I found your blog. I love your style!
ReplyDeleteLori - I love the gingham. This is going to be a delightful quilt.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to stop by this morning to tell you about some funny things that happened last weekend and all were sparked by your giveaway. First off, I am enjoying my wait for the pincushion. It is so exciting. You were so kind to link my blog in your post and I have had many visitors. Thank you. One visitor, Pam (PKM) came by and read the post about my mother's quilts. She contacted me immediately as she used to work with my mother at Going to Pieces in Pleasanton, California (Where I grew up) and made my daughter Libby (who was maybe a year old at the time) giggle like crazy for an hour one afternoon we were visiting the store. She could hardly believe she found mom via my blog.
When I stopped by my mother's on Saturday, I shared with her that Pam had found me and in course her through your giveaway. We marveled at the way the domestic blog world connects us all.
We were chatting about the pincushion and how I had ordered your patterns and then had to pick one which of course was not easy. I told I picked a pattern with aprons - so cute. She said, "Oh, I bought a pattern with you in mind not too long ago..." She retreived it from her studio...and guess whose pattern it might be? Yours! The Apron Club! We laughed and laughed. We laughed for some time over that.
We pulled out the laptop, pulled up your site, had tons of fun reading and looking. We then made the connection to Pam's blog and Blissful Blogging. It was a fun morning.
Thank you! I thought you should know that blogging goes far beyond posts and comments sometimes.
Well, off to grade some more. I seem to be doing that a lot this summer. ~Kelly

Oh Lori -- I love the brown -- too cute. Isn't it fun to work on something new? But, oh so hard, to put it aside for other things....
ReplyDeleteAdorable, cute, sweet and oh so YOU. I love the gingham.
ReplyDeleteYour butterflies are lovely. I need to work on mine today.
ReplyDeleteAnd isn't that the coolest about Kelly and Nadine. I'm super happy about that. So thanks for your link to my old friends.
xo
I love everything about this quilt and the brown gingham is perfect with all of your colors.
ReplyDeleteI love these butterflies! The brown gingham is so perfect! And I'm really missing Utah...it might hit 120 here this week...yuck!
ReplyDeleteLOri,
ReplyDeleteI do love this pattern- I have printed out the tutorial because it does call to me to make- It has to get in line but perhaps it will get to the top of the list. I think it would be gorgeous in batik fabrics with a dark background- probably black.
I love really like your brown and gingham combo- It is a charming combination. There is nothing quite like chasing butterflies ... VBG
Happy quilting.
Regards,
Anna
Oh, Lori! I LOVE your butterflies! Love the brown, love the gingham, love your fabric choices! Aren't they fun and just more than a tad addictive to make? I've had to put mine aside to work on some other things, but I haven't put the blocks too far away. Can't wait to get back to them. Wheee!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I really enjoy your Scripture Sundays...
ReplyDeleteOh, check out Quilting Cowgirl~she found an apron museum w/the cutest ones. I thought of you when I saw her photos. XO
Butterflies in Autumn is perfect for those colors! I saw that tutorial too..one more thing on my "want to make" list! So many wonderful quilt patterns out there. No wonder I can't work on one until it's completed before I start another! LOL
ReplyDeleteYour butterflies are sooooo pretty! I really really really want to start a quilt with these, but first I need to finish up some WIPs -- thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLori - Jodi over at Pleasant Home has given us a very abbreviated home tour of YOUR house! I think we want to see more. Well? Get with it! ~Kelly

I had just looked at Belinda's butterflies before I came here. I loved her brown. I use black so much so I was thinking - hey! I love the brown (brown as the new black). Then you used it too. And I love the gingham for the center. Perfect. Love them. You're killing me, you know that don't you. I want to punch out, leave work, and go butterfly.
ReplyDeleteOh Lori.....I LOVE yours!! I am totally amazed yours and mine look nothing alike even though we are both using the brown. How fabulous everyone's butterflies are so different. I am crazy over this fun little block and plan on doing more with it....in fact, I've had an 'i-dee' when I first woke up this morning.....we will see if it works out!!!
ReplyDeleteYour gingham is perfection!!
very cute butterflies.
ReplyDeleteI was here the other day and those butterflies of yours bit me. I love them! I immediately had to start working on my own.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking the tutorial:0)
