On Friday I prepared the binding...
On Saturday I picked it up from my friend Helen...who did a fabulous job on the quilting as usual...
I knew while I was making this quilt that I would have to use cute little pom-pom trim in the binding.
First I stitched it onto the edge...
And then stitched on the tiny pink gingham binding.
Then I grabbed needle and thread...a pincushion...scissors...and went out in my garden to do the handwork part of the binding.
Do you like the fabric that I found for the backing?
I love the way that the pom-pom trim looks so vintagey cute....I think it really adds to the style of the quilt...don't you?
And I so love gingham as you well know by now...and I think this little pink gingham is a perfect match for the trim.
My 10 year old daughter Kassidy Grace...(aka my stunt double)...embroidered all of the words throughout the quilt.

I loved designing and making this quilt so much.
I'm sure it is the most detailed quilt that I will ever make but it was SO MUCH FUN playing with Paper Dolls again!

What a fabulous quilt! Paper dolls were my absolute favorite when I was growing up. My mother would give my sister and I a quarter each and we would choose paper dolls from the toy section of the department store where she got her hair done. Sometimes my grandmother would draw old fashioned looking paper dolls for us, and we absolutely loved that! Anyway -- your quilt is so inspired! Just wonderful :)

ReplyDeleteLori! It's amazing! My little girl was sitting on my lap as we looked through all of the pictures and we were both so excited! We love the pom poms and pink gingham binding and I love the tiny squares on the border and I love the yellow raincoat, and well, the list could go on and on! And, man, your granddaughter is so talented. I'm so impressed with her skills (and she must have made bank too with all of those letters she embroidered!) Very cool Lori. I'm just going to be in shock all night just thinking about how long each eye must have taken, let alone the rest of the quilt. O.K. I'll shut up now. Great job!

Speechless...almost...it's beautiful!! I love it, so much going on and I don't know what I love more, the quilt itself or the memories it brought back...wow, I know I shouldn't say this but you should burn every pattern - every one - and not sell or give even one away...because NO ONE will EVER be able to make one as wonderful as the original...it should hang in a museum where people can PAY MONEY to see it!!
