I love the seasons end when the earth produces it's bounty! All of the colorful vegetables are so gorgeous...even with the soil still clinging to it fresh from the garden.
I can't think of a vegetable that I don't like....these are some of my favorites.
Do you see a fabulous patchwork quilt out of these colors?....I do!
And I just can't seem to get enough of sweet juicy watermelon....one of my fave's.
But my very favorite by far....are tomatoes fresh from the garden...still warm from the sun.
During the long winters here, I really despise having to resort to eating what we call "plastic tomatoes" from the grocery store.....which is why I always bottle as many tomatoes as I can.
We are enjoying every fresh tomato that we can until frost comes a callin'....
One of the ways we enjoy them is on toasted baguettes, smothered with delicious basil pesto...and a fresh tomato slice topped with provolone. I put it back under the broiler until the cheese melts and the tomato is warm and juicy....yum!
I hope you are able to take advantage of the bounty of this season!
I'd take to take advantage of those toasted tomato basil cheesy thingies! My gosh do they look yum and I hate to cook! LOL!
ReplyDeleteNothing like fresh summer veggies and fruit!! But boy, I am just salivating over the tomato and pesto baguette... YUM!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the beautiful photo of the colorful vegetables, I thought of a quilt too! I love color. Beets are one of my favorites. I sautee the beet greens in some olive oil with onion or garlic, it is so good! That little shop that you went to with Nanette looked like so much fun. I love the picture Nanette took of you, that is on her blog, you are so pretty ♥ Have a great day
ReplyDeleteI feel like I eat like a king in the summer time. A harvest from the Lord.
ReplyDeleteLori, I can definitely see a quilt in the beautiful veggies and fruits from our summer gardens. You talked about eating tomatoes still warm from the sun...one of my favorite memories growing up here in Utah (best tomatoes anywhere!) is mom and dad hand me a tiny little salt shaker of my own to walk out in the garden and pick sun warm tomatoes. Then the three of us would sit down under the shade of the fruit trees and eat our delicious tomatoes and laugh till we had tears rolling because even mom and dad had tomatoe juice and seeds on their faces and clothes. Not as much as I did mind you but such fun all the same and what a delicious treat! Thanks for stirring up such fond memories. As for your tomato on the toasted baguettes, oh they look just delicious! Gonna have to try that right away. Hugs...

This truly is a wonderful time of year when you get to enjoy all the wonderful vegetables from the garden :) Your baguette and tomato looks delicious! We make bruschetta all the time with assiago on top but I must try provolone now *grin*.
ReplyDeleteHugs.
Thought I would stop & say hello from South Korea and how jealous I am of your watermelon.
ReplyDeleteThe commissary on base sells us local Korean-grown watermelons for $17.98 a piece. No joke...that's the sale price. They normally run $19.98 for a small 5 - 6 lb. melon.
I've recently taken up quilting (missing my great-grandmother's quilts left at home) & love your unique patterns.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Much love from an overseas Army wife,
Jennifer
Oh that looks delicious! I always love your recipes! They always look so good!
ReplyDeleteI'll miss the tomatoes most of all - my little cherry tomato plants are almost done and it's started raining here so that may be the very end of fresh, homegrown tomatoes until next year. sigh.
ReplyDeleteYUMMERS! I love the summer veggies...and watermelon...I'm so sad when it's gone. ENJOY!
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous photos!!
ReplyDeleteLove brushetta. Yours looks amazing! I want it right now. I'm glad your casserole turned out. I made lasagna yesterday for Jamie's Sunday birthday dinner. Her birthday is Wed. But we had all the family there (that lives around here anyway). She's such a kid. She turns 20 but she's still like 12.
