We are getting ready to go camping/hunting for the holiday weekend.
With thier bows and arrows in thier quivers...the boys will be searching for a huge bull elk.
Mr. Honeys favorite to take up on the mountain is a salted nut roll.
A few weeks back, I was visiting Nan over to Pots and Pins and spied THIS RECIPE for Salted Nut Bars.
I thought he would like homemade ones better!
I knew they would be perfect for the hunt....so I made up a batch and they were a huge hit!
So yesterday I made up another batch to take on our trip....this is how I like to package for individual treats.
I cut waxed paper into 6" wide strips across the width of the roll...which is 12".
Fold a strip in half ....it measures 6" x 6".
Stitch around 3 sides with a colorful zig-zag stitch....leave the 4th side open.
Place the treat inside....
And stitch closed...backstitch to secure.

The packaging keeps them fresh and also makes them convenient for packed lunches....I also like to make these waxed paper pockets for cookies and brownies.

Ok I saw the post to and made the nut roll bars. My nuts kept falling off what did I do wrong? Yours look yummy by the way.
ReplyDeleteHaha, now that is a such a smart idea! The color coding would work perfect for my 3 kids to because it never fails that each one wants something slightly different than the others and I'm forever making little notes on packages for them. Oooh I know, I could stitch their initials on them! LOL.

Flashback! We used to take our sandwiches to school in waxed paper bags and then sit on them going down the slide at recess. It polished the slide to a super fast shine! Of course, that was in the day when metal slides weren't too dangerous for poor, fragile children:) And our bags weren't so pretty!

Oh my goodness gracious! The only thing that could make Salted Nut Bars better is the darling way you packaged them! I'm going to have to make another batch just so I can sew them up in wax paper! So, so clever of you!!! Thanks for the mention on your blog - when I tuned into mine today I saw I had a big bump in visits - that's always a nice thing! ReplyDeleteHubby and I are leaving for Co on Friday for his annual elk hunt. I'm going to make these bars for him - thank you! I plan on using heart-healthy mixed nuts and a concoction of agave & powder milk instead of the condensed sweet milk.
