What I'm Reading...

It's no secret that I love a good read...and it's also not a secret that I love the Elm Creek Quilt books that are written by Jennifer Chiaverini.
I've read them from the very beginning and have loved every one of them... especially the historical fiction ones like The Lost Quilter...

which is a sequel to this one...The Runaway Quilt...which has been my very, very favorite in the series so far.
It's really hard to pick a favorite but this is one that I loved so much.

And now Jennifer has just released #17 in the series...
The Union Quilters... and I'm so excited that it's also in the same time period as The Runaway Quilt and The Lost Quilter....which is during the Civil War.
I just started it so I can't give you a review just yet...but I can tell you that I am positive that I won't be dissapointed:)
If you havn't read her books yet, I highly recommend them.
You really don't have to read them in the order that Jennifer has written to enjoy them but I suggest that you do read the first 3 in order so that you understand who the characters are and what the series is all about.
The first three are...
1. The Quilters Apprentice
2. Round Robin
3. The Cross-Country Quilters
All 3 books are now available together in one large book called Elm Creek Quilts Sampler.
If you decide to give them a whirl...let me know how you like them.
Well that's it for now girls...I hope you have a quilty kind of day...
xx

  1. Still waiting to get my autographed copy in the mail. I met her last April in Oregon! She is so nice! Have you made any of her quilts? I did the Sylvia's Bridal Sampler and the Round Robin is a flimsy right now.

  14. I have read quite a few of these. I did read the first few in order and then would forget which ones I had read and would pick one up out of order but you are right it does not matter after you get through the first ones. My MIL just gave me the Christmas book to read, sorry cannot remember the title, but I am enjoying it a lot at this time.

  16. I, too, love her books and have all of them in hardcover. I now have an e-reader and was debating to get this newest one that way. But...i do think I need the hard one to add to my set. I love the "period" novels as well. Actually it might be time to start everything all over...

  17. Jennifer C gets a highly recommended from me too. For some reason it took me a little while to get into the very first one, perhaps it was the mood I was in at the time, but once I got past the first chapter I was hooked. Have read them all now except for this latest one, will look forward to your review on it, and trying to get a hold of it myself here in Australia. xo

  22. I am a big fan of the Jennifer and the Elm Creek Quilt series. The Runaway Quilt has always been my favorite as well. I got to meet Jennifer at the Sisters, Oregon outdoor quilt show. I also got to make a book cover block for a quilt me and some of her other fans made. I can't wait to read her new book!!

  23. I've read all of Jennifer's books, too and just waiting for the new one! My favorite was the very first novel. :-) I really enjoyed reading "The Aloha Quilt" during January when it was colder than cold here and we kept getting snow and more snow. I was sure as I read that book that I could feel those warm breezes blowing across the lanai as I sewed. Dreaming.......... LOL!

  24. I really love Jennifer's books and like your previous commenter, one of my favorites was the Aloha quilt. All the stories are excellent read.
If you like quilt stories, you might want to check out Earlene Fowler's Benni Harper stories. They are mysteries but they also have a story thread that connects the main character's family life and loves.
    I like her books too.
I am looking forward to reading the Union Quilters.
    Regards,
    Anna

  26. I went to a book signing with her last night. She read from the Union Quilters and answered questions. She seems like she would be a good person to sit and quilt with for an afternoon. Looking forward to reading the book.
