The Quilty Barn Along...First Quilt Top Complete!!!...

Last week while I was on retreat...
I was able to finish up the top of the first quilt in
The Quilty Barn Along

YaY!!!

If you happen to follow me on
you watched my progress every step of the way:)

It has been so much fun to piece this quilt...

Each and every barn has been a labor of love:)

I made all of my barns in this quilt red...

And I used
 colorful prints in the
sashing's to set off the red barns nicely.

I also added another set of sashing strips around the outside...

So that there would be 2 strips on all 4 sides of each barn.

I'm not adding additional borders.
I don't think it needs them and
I'm happy with the size of the quilt.
(it's a twin)

I cut a - 2 1/2" square for each corner.

They are all different fabrics ...but all are aqua.

I cut the outside sashing strips...

2 1/2" x 20 1/2"
(you will need to cut 14 of them)

 "Quilty Barns"
64" x 84"
Designed and made by
Lori Holt
of Bee in my Bonnet

I am working on finishing up
the embroidery for the Tractor label
 on the back...
so that I can get it
 off to the quilters.

I'll show you the label
as soon as it's complete!

Leave me some bloggy love and
 let me know what you
think of my first Quilty Barn finish!

Have a quilty kind of day...
xx

  2. I do love it! My top is all done (I called it done at nine barns) even the label for the back, just need to get around to quilting it. Thanks for the fun!

  3. Really cute! I can't wait to see it all finished. I'm still cutting fabric for my barns and blocks. I'm much slower than you!

I hope to make this for my dad for Christmas as he's been a farmer all his life. I'm sure mine won't be as darling as yours since I've never made a quilt before, but maybe it will be okay. Your tutorials are wonderful and clear and make me think that it's possible for me to do it too! Thanks so much for sharing!

  6. I grew up on a farm with a great big red barn so I think this quilt is pretty special. I always love your fabric choices and creativity.

Just returned home from a trip and found my envelop. Thanks for the give away. Perhaps I'll use it in a barn :)

  7. I absolutely love your quilt. I have been following each step of the way but do not have the time in my schedule right now to make it. But it is on my list. I am a Midwest girl originally from Iowa so the barns take me back to innocent times.

    Thanks so much for sharing.

  20. Love it! The colors are fabulous and I LOVE the red barns! My Grandpa's barns were white and I always begged him to paint them red. He said if I was willing to buy the paint and get up on the ladder-he'd do it!

  24. I have loved putting together my b arns, and have had my 12 barns waiting for that final step. The extra row of sashing makes complete sense,a nd finishes it nicely. I am not making the silo barn quilt but have made 4 silo barns to put on the back of this one. I have a cute cow fabric to use for the remainder of the back.
I love all of your quilt alongs Lori and look forward to every posting on your blog. Thank you so much for sharing so generously.

  35. I just love your quilty barn quilt!
I didn't discover it until you were already into it, and I was in to another project. Will all your directions remain online, or will there be a "book" of directions for those of us who want to do it later? I really love your designs and would just like knowing you as a friend. You are so creative!
