I saw it up on the shelf and asked the kind owner of the shop if he would get it down for me....
I thought it was the perfect red...........
I really liked the details of the hardware..........
I loved the handle on the top instead of the sides..........
I saw the cute bottle opener...........
I saw the cute bottle opener...........
I opened the lid and saw a tray that fits in the top and then I bought it!....I love it and I think it will be perfect to use as a picnic basket/cooler for our family. I can think of so many places to take it where it will really come in handy....
I used it on Wednesday to hold the ice for the lemonade I was serving at a little backyard get together.....see, it already came in handy and is so vintagey cute! Next time I might just fill it with ice and put bottled soda inside to keep cold and then we can use the bottle opener.....
Speaking of keeping things cold.....I remember these bowls from my chidhood. We had a big set of them along with tumblers and a pitcher. My brothers and sisters and I always liked these for ice cream and the tumblers for Kool-Aid because the metal kept them frosty cold. They came in a variety of colors and I always picked the red.

What a great find, I have a big old green picnic thermos I got from a great Aunt that I love, and collection of picnic baskets that are fun to have out during the summer time.
ReplyDeleteLoved the antique cooler, and the red is so you!
ReplyDeleteIs jealousy a bad thing??? :) I love the red cooler - couldn't be cooler! Ha ha! I guess I will just have to live vicariously... "my friend has the coolest stuff!" That's ok too... :)
ReplyDeleteI remember the metal tumblers! I also remember they always made things taste slightly metallic! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
ReplyDeleteI even missed your cute red cooler with ice? Not fair! well, in return for forgetting/missing your party, I would like a museum tour of your house and garden :)
ReplyDeleteMy mother has her original one and it's in pristine condition and it was very well used. I want it!
ReplyDeleteAwwww....the memories!! And homemade ice cream too!
ReplyDeleteI have the metal tumblers that I grew up with! I have four of them. I should find which box they are in (from our recent move) and use them this week when my sister visits. :D
ReplyDeleteLove the cooler. My friends parents had one like it. Love the bottle opener attached too. I can just envision the cooler filled with bubble up and colas from my childhood.
ReplyDeleteYou have made my day again! Such memories your blog evocked...
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty cool cooler. I love that it's RED! I remember the metal bowls and cups, too. Did you find yours at a thrift store?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little our toy box was a HUUUGGGE cardboard box. Well...I thought it was huge. It was the box from my parent's esky from the early 60s and is about the same size as yours. Theirs is green and straight sided and they still use it.
