Vintage Monday- The cool stuff!

Last week I picked up a new-old treasure while checking out an antique shop that I havn't been to in a while. A 1950's cooler.

I saw it up on the shelf and asked the kind owner of the shop if he would get it down for me....
I thought it was the perfect red...........

I really liked the details of the hardware..........

I loved the handle on the top instead of the sides..........

I saw the cute bottle opener...........

I opened the lid and saw a tray that fits in the top and then I bought it!....I love it and I think it will be perfect to use as a picnic basket/cooler for our family. I can think of so many places to take it where it will really come in handy....

I used it on Wednesday to hold the ice for the lemonade I was serving at a little backyard get together.....see, it already came in handy and is so vintagey cute! Next time I might just fill it with ice and put bottled soda inside to keep cold and then we can use the bottle opener.....

Speaking of keeping things cold.....I remember these bowls from my chidhood. We had a big set of them along with tumblers and a pitcher. My brothers and sisters and I always liked these for ice cream and the tumblers for Kool-Aid because the metal kept them frosty cold. They came in a variety of colors and I always picked the red.

Last night we used them for homemade ice cream... Mr. Honey is ready to start the freezing.

and here it is in all of it's sweet and cold yummy-ness..........

We sat on the patio and enjoyed the backyard and each other and the ice cream.....a nice way to end a summer Sunday evening.....

  12. When I was little our toy box was a HUUUGGGE cardboard box. Well...I thought it was huge. It was the box from my parent's esky from the early 60s and is about the same size as yours. Theirs is green and straight sided and they still use it.
