Sewing with Kassidy...

Kassidy is working on a quilt for her bedroom.

She has had this layer cake for a long time...

And she finally decided on a pattern that she thought would be fun to make.

It's from this book and it's the quilt on the cover....made with one layer cake...perfect.

She likes to kick back and watch icarly while she stitches...LOL

She's making good progress...

She likes to choose her own fabrics and she decides where they go in the quilt too.

She does everything herself....

Except for the rotary cutting....that's when I just say no.
I'm not prepared to deal with "owies" like that!

I worked beside her on my machine...making progress on my spring dresdens...don't laugh...it's still summer so I am only one season behind!

Tomorrow I pick up this quilt from the quilters and will be able to bind it ...yay!

Behold, this is the promise of the Lord unto you...
Be of good cheer and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you;
and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ, that I was, that I am, and that I am to come.

Blackberry Jam...

Mr. Honey and I went to the Farmers Market in downtown Salt Lake City....

These are one of the things we went in search of....blackberries for jam. My boys cannot survive the winter without blackberries!

Do you want to know how we made it?
Okay...here goes!
We mashed up these beautiful berries to equal 3 cups of fruit....after we ate a few ourselves:)...
we added 5 1/4 cups of sugar and let it sit for 10 minutes to make sure it dissolved well.
I boiled one package of pectin in 3/4 cups of water for 1 minute.
...then I added it to the blackberries and mixed it well!

I prepared the bottles by sterilizing them in the oven...and laid the rings out.
Do you think the Martha Stewart police will come and get me for using her Wednesday dishtowel on a Saturday?...*grin*

I sterilized the lids by boiling them in water for a few minutes.

I took the bottles out of the oven and poured the jam in each one...a vintage teacup with a nice wide handle is just the right size to fill 8 oz bottles.

I always use the bottle grabbers that my Grandma Crane gave me from her kitchen when I am canning.
I filled the bottles leaving 1/2 inch space at the top for expanding and I filled 8 jars in this batch.

I put the lids and rings on and then let them sit out for 24 hours on the counter.
The next day Mr. Honey took them down to their new home in the deepfreezer for safe keeping until we are knee deep in snow and having homemade scones for supper:)

Get ready for some cuteness!....

I am soooo in love with this little girl.

Sophie Belle...my 18 month old grandaughter.

Just look at that smile...

She is sitting in the red rocking chair in my kitchen....

I'm bribing her with a cracker so she will sit still for a photo shoot....

Eating a graham... at Grams's.

Wearing cute little piggy tales....

She is so sweet.

And a total goof too!

Now she is refusing to look at the camera...come on Sophie...smile for Grandma...

...and there it is.
The face that melts Grandma's heart...
even with cracker crumbs on it!

Sew Day with Yo-Yo Mamas!

Last week at Material Girls I had a sew day with my Yo-Yo Mama's!
And just look what Nadine was sewing on for the first time...

Her new PINK featherweight! When I say new...of course I mean the paint job is new...the Singer featherweight is old!

She just got it for her birthday and this was her first chance to use it!
Just in case you were wondering....she got it HERE
Isn't it just the cutest thing ...ever?
I've had mine for several years now and I still love it sew....Nadine asked me to show her how to work her new little pink cutie...and I happily did so.

And here she is...."girl...you are workin it!".....chain sewing squares for our project.... we are all doing the same thing.

Here is the low-down...
We meet once a month and every month for the past year we have been exchanging 2 and 1/2 inch squares.
We know ahead of time which color to bring and we bring 4 different squares for everyone each month....and come home with the same amount of squares that we took...all in the same color but in a huge variety of prints.

This was the day we decided to sew the squares together....the rule was that we put all of our squares in a paper sack and shake them like crazy and mixed them all up....here's mine.

Then we pulled 2 out of the bag and stitched them together without trying to match....the rule was you could grab another only if they happened to be the same color.
Some of us are making 4 patches...or 9 patches...or 16 patches....it's sopossed to be a secret from each other what we will end up making.
We will reveal our quilt tops at next months meeting!

Although....we don't keep secrets very well and some of us are doing the same thing...LOL
As you can see, we all have a fantastic time together.

Can you see my little pile of squares behind my little black featherweight?....she looks naked and boring now compared to Nadines.
I think she needs a make over...maybe in red, yellow or green. I can't decide...but when I do....you will be the first to know!

We keep the energy up by telling stories and poking fun at each other...in a good way of course!

As you can see....having extra fuel keeps the energy up too!

Here are my squares piled up behind my machine...stitched two by two.

We raced to see who could get through them the quickest....

Judy is the winner!!! I'll show you the results of our endeavor after next months meeting!
This is just one of the projects we are doing together.... another one is the Egg Money sampler quilt....from this book by
Eleanor Burns.

Juli finished her top and brought it to show off....love it Juli!

And Pat had hers completely finished...quilting and all...way to go Pat!

And we will never run out of ideas for more projects to do...because guess what our favorite "man in brown shorts" brought while we were there?

Yep....more fabric!
Yo-Yo Mama's at Material Girls sure is a dangerous good time!...
