Welcome Quilty friends!!
Today is week two of the
FARM FRESH SEW ALONG
YeeHaw!
We are making the
FARM FRESH Quilt
which finishes at
88" x 95"
It consists of 50 pieced
Farm Girl Blocks
from two of my books...
and
Farm Girl Vintage 2
There is a mix of both
6" and 12" blocks in our quilt:)
I'm so excited to be
sewing from these books again...
it's been a wonderful trip down
memory lane for me
and I want to thank you
for coming along with me:)
***This sew along works
a little bit differently than my
other sew alongs because...
The patterns along with
step by step instructions
are in the books, so I will be sewing
each and every one of the blocks
right along with you!
No need to sew ahead of time for me
as I usually do for tutorials.
For this sew along there is
no need for block instruction
because everything is already in the book:)
This format also allows you the choice
to sew your entire quilt at once
or space it apart like the schedule!
Last week I did the week one video
to watch my video
and please leave me a comment
on my channel after watching the video:)
All are 6" finished blocks and
from the first book
Farm Girl Vintage
to read my week one blog post
12" BAKED WITH LOVE
6" BRIGHT ZINNIA
6" BUSY BEEHIVE
6" CHEERFUL TULIPS
6" COLD WATERMELON
We are using Farm Girl Vintage 2
for all of the blocks and
of course the sew along guide too:)
Keep in mind that the guide tells you
which size block that you are cutting
for the quilt.
I took this photo to show you that
I did the embroidery above the pie
BEFORE I sewed the bottom section on.
Of course you don't have to do that
but I thought it was an easier reach
so that's why I did it!
I am using 3 strands of floss for the
12" Blocks instead of the
two strands for 6" blocks.
for this block:
1 1/2" - 2 1/2" - 4 1/2" - 5 1/2"
6 1/2" - 7 1/2" - 10 1/2" - 12 1/2"
I also used the 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" pink ruler.
In this photo I just wanted to
show you how handy
the new 1 1/2" size is for the
little pie crust segments!
BRIGHT ZINNIA
Trim-It Rulers that I used:
1 1/2" - 2 1/2" - 3 1/2" - 6 1/2"
1 1/2" x 6 1/2" pink ruler.
BUSY BEEHIVE
Trim-It Rulers that I used:
1 1/2" - 2" - 2 1/2" - 3"
4 1/2" - 5 1/2" - 6 1/2"
1 1/2" x 6 1/2" pink ruler.
CHEERFUL TULIPS
Trim-It Rulers that I used:
1 1/2" - 1 3/4" - 3" - 3 1/2"
4" and 6 1/2"
1 1/2" x 6 1/2" pink ruler.
COLD WATERMELON
Trim-It Rulers that I used:
3 1/2" - 4 1/2" - 5" - 6 1/2"
*Also, I think that instead of
doing embroidery for the seeds I'll use
Cute Little Buttons.
Sew Fun!!
I hope that you are enjoying the
step by step instructions in my books
and that at the end of each step,
you have the info on what that
specific section should measure.
I developed the Trim-It Rulers to use
for each of these sections and
I hope that they are helping to
improve your piecing accuracy
as much as they continue to help mine.
I also hope that y'all have fun
making your blocks this week!
Now we have completed ONE
12" Farm Girl Block...
And NINE - 6" Farm Girl Blocks.
We are off to a great start!
P.S. Thanks so much for your interest
and kind comments about
my journaling adventures!
I posted about my
Farmer's Daughter Junk Journal
at the bottom of this post...
if you are interested, scroll down to see:)
But as for now...
thanks so much for joining me today
for our sewing adventures
and I'll be right back here next week
to show you my next five finished blocks
from the Farm Girl Vintage Book.
Until then...
have a Quilty kind of day:)
xx

Other Places to find me:
I have made some progress on my
Farmer's Daughter Junk Journals
that I briefly told you about in my video
and last weeks blog post.
First I made this cute little Farm Chick
and tucked her inside the pocket
with the tag I had already shown you.
I made her from a printable
(printable shown)
that I got from the
Graphics Fairy website.
I am a paid member so I get mine for free
however...
each Friday they send out a TON of freebies
that you can download and print if you subscribe to tier weekly newsletter.
Here is the back with journaling space.
I added some of my washi tape along
the top of the vintage ledger page
pocket to add more strength.
Most vintage papers are somewhat fragile:)
I made these two journaling cards
to tuck into the two pockets
that I made from a Sears Catalog page.
The images are vintage ads for
farm equipment and I love them!
I punched 2 circles and folded them
in half for easy pull out tabs
and there is journaling space on the
back of each using vintage papers.
I made this scrappy belly band
to hold the vintage "EGG" book page
that I showed you last week.
I used bits of my scanned
Farmer's Daughter fabric prints...
and glued, inked and sewed the edges.
I finished each end off with
a punched tab and two brads.
Here's how I decorated the journal card.
I added a few printed images,
fabric for the tab, lace on the bottom,
a few rows of tiny bling and a button!
I have plenty of space for writing fond memories on the back.
Remember this tag I collaged and
this guy that
I cut from a vintage magazine?
Well now he lives in this lace pocket...
With a farm fresh tomato!
On the left page I made this corner pocket...
And made two journaling cards to tuck inside.
I'm having great fun with my
Farmer's Daughter Junk Journals
during the sew along!
My goal is this:
As I finish my blocks for the week,
I'll make a tag or a card or
add something to a page or two.
At the bottom of each post
I'll show you my progress
here each week as promised.
If you would like me to
show you my process in more detail
on my YouTube channel
please leave me a comment
on my week one YouTube post
to do that and let me know!
If y'all are interested in
Junk Journaling
I will share more with you there:)
