"DUCK AND DUCKLINGS BLOCK"
Welcome back to week three of the
"MERCANTILE SAMPLER"
Sew Along!
Are you ready to sew with me?
I hope that you will join me here each week
when I will be doing two tutorials
weekly...every Monday and Friday.
We are making the
Mercantile Sampler Quilt
88" x 88"
The quilt is made with my fabric
collection called Mercantile:)
We are piecing all 25 blocks
and then turning them into a
12" circle to applique onto a
4-Patch Block background!
I detail all of the supplies
that you need to make the quilt in my
Bee Prepared post right here on my blog.
I have already posted the
post which not only details
all of the supplies needed but
explains how this sew along works.
I have also given the links there
for the free PDF Download
of the Sew Along Guides
to download the sew along guide
if you have not downloaded yet.
to download the sampler block
sew along guide.

DUCK AND DUCKLINGS BLOCK
Cutting each block will be super
simple because of the sew along guide
that is provided for you.
Let's get started by making the
four corner segments in the block.
Sew the four "D" squares to
four "B" squares first and then sew
those to four of the "A" rectangles.
And press open.
Now we are going to sew
easy corner triangles using the
"C" squares onto these four segments.
You can mark a line from corner to corner
or use the Seams Sew Easy Guide.
Trim off extra using an
approximate 1/4" seam allowance.
Press seams open and you can use the
4" Trim-it Ruler to make sure that they
each measure 4" square at this point.
Now let's add easy corner triangles
using the four remaining "B" squares.
Sew them onto the corners like this...
Trim off the excess and this time
we are NOT pressing open but pressing
towards the Easy Corner Triangle.
They should all still measure 4" square:)
Lay out our block on the design board
and sew it together just like a 9-patch!!
Back of my block:)
Add the borders so that
we can make it into a circle:)
Okay let's go to the worktable and
prepare our block for appliqué:)
Line up the center seams of the
4-patch background with the center
of the block for placement.
Pin into place and glue baste:)
All ready for applique!
After applique...
trim it down to 14 1/2" square
using the 14 1/2" Trim-It Ruler.
Line up the seams in the block
with the lines on the ruler
for easy peasy accuracy!
And now we have 6 blocks completed.
I just love them all!!
I'll meet you right back here
on my blog next Monday for the
Spools and Bobbins Block tutorial...
xx
Lori
