"SODA POP STAR BLOCK"
Welcome back to week four of the
"MERCANTILE SAMPLER"
Sew Along!
Are you ready to sew with me?
I hope that you will join me here each week
when I will be doing two tutorials
weekly...every Monday and Friday.
We are making the
Mercantile Sampler Quilt
88" x 88"
The quilt is made with my fabric
collection called Mercantile:)
We are piecing all 25 blocks
and then turning them into a
12" circle to applique onto a
4-Patch Block background!
I detail all of the supplies
that you need to make the quilt in my
Bee Prepared post right here on my blog.
I have already posted the
post which not only details
all of the supplies needed but
explains how this sew along works.
I have also given the links there
for the free PDF Download
of the Sew Along Guides

SODA POP STAR BLOCK
Cutting each block will be easy peasy
because of the sew along guide
that is provided for you.
Let's begin with easy corner triangles:).
Mark a line on the back
of the "D" squares
and then sew them onto
the "B" rectangles...
Like this.
Trim off excess and press the seams open.
These should still measure
2 3/4" x 5"
which is size that you
originally cut the rectangle.
Now sew the "A" squares to the "C" squares.
Press them open and
then sew them to the rectangles...
Like this:)
Now we are going to add
easy corner triangles using the
8 remaining "A" squares.
Mark a line on the wrong sides
and sew them like the photo:)
Trim excess...
And press open.
All four segments should
now measure 5" square.
Let's sew them together into a star!
Place them on the design board like this
and sew together just like a 4-patch:)
Back of my block:)
Add the borders so that
we can make our cute quilty circle:)
Make the 4-Patch background block too.
Let's make the circle!
That was sew fun!
Now we are ready to
prepare our block for appliqué!
Line up the center seams like this.
Keep in mind that the star is rotated
from the direction that we sewed it.
If it helps...the denim pinwheels now
look like flying geese
instead of half square triangles.
Pin into place and glue baste:)
All ready for applique!
As per usual...after applique
trim it down to 14 1/2" square
using the 14 1/2" Trim-It Ruler.
Continue to line up the seams
in the block
with the lines on the rulers that
go both ways...straight and diagonal
for easy peasy centering!
And now we have 8 blocks completed.
YaY!
I'll meet you right back here
on my blog next Monday for the
Shopping Basket Block tutorial...
xx

I'm all caught up. 8 blocks made and 7 quilted. Doing QAYG. First time and it's working beautifully. Just quilting in the ditch but works for these blocks. Loving it.
