Mercantile Sampler Sew Along - Week Four - Spool and Bobbins Block!!

"SPOOL AND BOBBINS BLOCK"

Welcome to week four of the
"MERCANTILE SAMPLER"
Sew Along!

Are you ready to sew with me?

I hope that you will join me here each week
when I will be doing two tutorials
 weekly...every Monday and Friday.

We are making the
Mercantile Sampler Quilt
88" x 88"

The quilt is made with my fabric
 collection called Mercantile:)

We are piecing all 25 blocks
and then turning them into a
12" circle to applique onto a
 4-Patch Block background!

I detail all of the supplies
that you need to make the quilt in my
Bee Prepared post right here on my blog.

I have already posted the
 post which not only details
all of the supplies needed but
explains how this sew along works.
I have also given the links there
for the free PDF Download
of the Sew Along Guides

to download the sew along guide
if you have not downloaded yet.
to download the sampler block
 sew along guide.

As per usual for the first block in my
new fabric collection Sew Alongs
that FIRST tutorial is a video.

Because I now have my own

Today we are making the
SPOOL AND BOBBINS BLOCK

Here's mine all cut and ready to sew!

Cutting each block will be easy going
because of the sew along guide
that is provided for you.

Let's begin by making two of the
 corner segments in the block.

Sew the "F" squares to
the "B" squares first and then sew
 to the "A" rectangles.

Press them open and then mark a
line on the back of the "C" squares.

We are going to sew
easy corner triangles using the
"C" squares onto the two segments.

Trim off extra and press open like this:)
Now mark a line on two of the "B" squares.

Sew them onto the outside
pink squares like this and trim.

We are NOT pressing these
smaller ones open but pressing
towards the Easy Corner Triangle.

These segments should each
 measure 5" square:)

Okay now let's sew the remaining
two corner segments for the block.

Sew them together like a four patch...

And press the seams open.

Now let's mark the back of
four "B" squares and two "D" squares.
(or use the Seams Sew Easy Guide
instead of marking like I usually do!)

Sew an easy corner triangle across
the green squares like this.
Trim away the excess.

Press seams open:)

Now let's add the red ones onto one corner.

Press towards the Easy Corner Triangles:)
These two segments should
 also measure 5" square.

Now we are ready to lay out
our block on the design board like this
and sew it together just like a 4-patch!!

Back of my block:)

Add the borders so that
we can make our cute quilty circle:)

Make the 4-Patch background block too.

Let's make the circle!
With this block you can pin the
traced circle on one of two directions.
 I chose this one:)

Okay we are ready to
 prepare our block for appliquĆ©!

Line up the center seams like this.
Keep in mind that the "bobbins"
(green quarter square triangles)
are at the top and the bottom.

Pin into place and glue baste:)

All ready for applique!

After applique...
trim it down to 14 1/2" square
using the 14 1/2" Trim-It Ruler.

Continue to line up the seams
in the block
with the lines on the rulers that
go both ways...straight and diagonal
for easy peasy accuracy!

And now we have 7 blocks completed.

Can you believe it?!!

I hope that you will love
sewing YOUR seventh sampler block
for our sampler quilt...
and then turning it into a circle!

I'll meet you right back here
on my blog this Friday for the
Soda Pop Star Block tutorial...
xx
