Scarf - Ear Muff
and Mitten Blocks
Welcome Quilty Friends!!
Today is Week Seven for the
LET'S MAKE A SNOWMAN
SEW ALONG
If you are just joining us
and want to know everything
about this sew along and
making this quilt
for my "BEE PREPARED" blog post.
We are making the
LET'S MAKE A SNOWMAN Quilt
which finishes at
75" x 87"
It consists of 22 pieced quilt blocks
for the border which surrounds
the applique blocks in the center
of the quilt.
(There are a few other blocks
that are also pieced)
To make the applique blocks
we are using my
Sew Simple Shapes called of course...
Let's Make A Snowman!
The collection that we are using
for the quilt is...
HOME TOWN HOLIDAY!!
Home Town Holiday was designed by me...
and produced and distributed
to quilt shops everywhere
by the amazing
If you would like to know everything about
HOME TOWN HOLIDAY
to view the entire storyboard...
to see all of the fabrics close up
and to view the notions and ALL of
the patterns that coordinate with it:)
I did a video tutorial
on my YouTube channel for week one:)
I showed you how to make the hat
and one of the letters and
gave you tips along the way.
I also chatted about stitching the
appliqués by machine or hand
and about quilting over the
Sew Simple Shapes.
to watch the video and please
leave me a comment and a like!
and then
to read my week one blog tutorial as well.
for the above week two block tutorial
all of the above blocks.
for the tutorials
for all of these
tutorials for week four:)
Grab your fabric and the sew along guide
for cutting and let's get started
on this weeks tutorials!
I took photos of the blocks
cut and ready to go according to the
sew along guide instructions:)
Mittens Block
***TAKE NOTE***
To trace 4 of the 8 in reverse:)
Ear Muffs Block
Make sure to cut your 5/8" strip
ON THE BIAS
so that when you press the
prepared 1/4" strip...
you can press it into a curvy curve!
Scarf Block
***TAKE NOTE***
Trace half of the scarf shape
onto the interfacing and then
flip it over to trace the other half
just like we did a few weeks ago
with the sled runner shapes.
Also...after preparing your
1/4" STRAIGHT Bias strips
for the fringe...
press one end of each under 1/4"
Okay let's sew all the shapes:)
Not too many to sew this week...
and this is the last week
that we are sewing shapes!!
***Although for next weeks post
I do have a surprise for you
that involves the Sew Simple Shapes:)
I'm excited to show it to you!
***ANOTHER NOTE***
You will need to sew the
fabric strips for the cuffs
onto the mitten fabrics
before you sew the shapes.
Press he seams open as per usual.
And then go ahead and sew...but
You can use the dividing line
on your shape to mark the interfacing
to keep the cuffs all nice and even...
Like this:)
All sewn and ready to trim!
Before turning you will need to
cut the cleavage and inner curves
in each mitten shape.
They are super easy peasy
to lay out and pin.
The width of each pair from
side to side should be close to 5"
Use the 5 1/2" and the 6 1/2"
Trim-It Rulers to trim each
mitten block after applique:)
They should measure
no more than 7" tall...
And should be about 5" wide.
After applique, press from the back
and use the 6 1/2" and the 8 1/2"
Trim-It Rulers to trim it down.
applique block in the quilt...
which is this cute plaid scarf!!
Laying out is simple...
just center it onto the background
and pin each piece of fringe down
like this before glueing.
Each piece should come out
2" from the scarf end.
Repeat for the other side!
Use the 3 1/2" Trim-It Ruler
for trimming down the width
after applique and then
use the lines on your cutting mat
for trimming the long length.
And just like that we have
all of our applique blocks
completed for this sew along quilt:)
I'm actually kind of sad about that
because I have loved making all of
these snowman parts and accessories!!
I'll finish up making my
pieced blocks for the border and
I'll have them ready for next week:)
Remember that I did a tutorial
on how to make my Snow Star Blocks
so if you haven't watched it yet...
I'll meet you right back here
next Monday for the big finish and...
a super fun surprise that
I've been secretly working on
and I simply can't wait to
reveal it to you next week!!
Sew with you soon!
xx
