"9 PATCH STAR BLOCK"
Welcome back to week FIVE of the
"MERCANTILE SAMPLER"
Sew Along!
Are you ready to sew with me?
I hope that you will join me here each week
when I will be doing two tutorials
weekly...every Monday and Friday.
We are making the
Mercantile Sampler Quilt
88" x 88"
The quilt is made with my fabric
collection called Mercantile:)
We are piecing all 25 blocks
and then turning them into a
12" circle to applique onto a
4-Patch Block background!
I detail all of the supplies
that you need to make the quilt in my
Bee Prepared post right here on my blog.
I have already posted the
post which not only details
all of the supplies needed but
explains how this sew along works.
I have also given the links there

Today we are making the
9-PATCH STAR BLOCK
Cutting each block will simple
because of the sew along guide
that is provided for you.
Let's begin with a four patch:)
Use the eight "B" squares...
the four "C" squares
and four of the "A" squares.
Sew them together and press seams open!
Now grab eight "A" squares
and mark a line on the back.
We are going to sew
easy corner triangles onto the
"B" squares in the 4-Patch.
Trim and then press open.
All for segments should
measure 4" square at this point.
Use the 4" Trim-It Ruler
to square it up if needed!
Now let's sew the four
"E" squares to the four "D" squares:)
Press seams open.
Each should now measure 2 1/4" x 4"
Now let's make the block!
Lay your block out on the design board
like this and sew it together...yep!
You guessed it...just like a 9-Patch!
Add the borders so that
we can make another cute quilty circle:)
Make the 4-Patch background block:)
And make your circle!
Let's prepare our block for appliqué!
Place your block like this
and use the lines on the
4-patch background for centering up.
Pin into place and the Sue Glue:)
Ready for applique!
Once again...after applique
trim it down to 14 1/2" square
using the 14 1/2" Trim-It Ruler.
Continue to line up the seams
in the block
with the lines on the rulers that
go both ways...straight and diagonal
for easy peasy centering!
And now we have 10 blocks completed!
The two empty spots on my design wall are
just waiting to be filled up next week:)
I'll meet you right back here
on my blog next Monday for the
Peony Block tutorial...
xx
