PRIM Sew Along - Week Nine!!

"WELCOMING and CHEERFUL"

Welcome to week nine of the
 PRIM SEW ALONG!

We are making the
 PRIM QUILT
72" x 90"

We are also using the

And my newest fabric collection
PRIM
to make the quilt:)

I have already posted the
post which details all of the supplies
for the sew along and how it works.
I have also given the link there
for the free PDF Download
of the Sew Along Guide

to read that post.

So far we have made
"PATRIOTISM and INDUSTRY"

for the first week blog post

"JOY and CONTENTMENT"

for that blog post

"PEACE and PLENTY"
for that blog post

"KINDNESS and GENEROSITY"
for that blog post

"BEAUTY and SIMPLICITY"
for that blog post

"HOME and HEARTH"

for that blog post

"FAITH and ENDURANCE"

for that blog post

"PLEASANT and GENTLE"

for that blog post

And this week are making
"WELCOMING and CHEERFUL"

PRIM Sew Simple Shapes
needed for Block Nine:
1 - K9
2 - K10
1 - K12
1 - K13
1 - K23
1 - K24
3 - K29
1 - K33
1 - K42
1 - K43
2 - K50
1 - K61
2 - K62

*You will need three
1/4" curved bias strips.
Cut the longest one 12"
and press one end under.
Cut the other two 6" long
and no pressing under because
they will tuck under the
long stem and the flower tops.
*Cut 2 - 1/4" straight bias
2" long for the bird legs:)

This is the shape that you will use
 to make all three sizes
of the stacked Shaker Boxes.
You can see that there are
3 widths marked by the stitched lines
and you will use them to mark your
 sewing lines onto each interfacing...

Like this:)
Also mark the line across
 where the lid goes.
Before sewing each shape
sew the fabrics and the lids together
and press the seams open for less bulk:)

Before sewing the shape for the bird
 you will need to sew
these two fabrics together as well.

You will need to clip seam allowance
in the following shapes before turning:

Cleavage in the star...
pineapple top and heart

  Inner curves in the bird
and the three flowers.

Block Nine is all shaped up...
 pressed and ready to go!!

Pin baste on your large design board
and then add the Sue Glue.

Use your best friend (16 1/2" Trim-It Ruler)
to place the shapes and create your block.

When your glue is dry
 it's time for applique!!
Use your favorite method of applique...
either by hand or by machine.

Either way you will want to
match the thread to each applique piece.

**If you are doing it by machine
you do not need to change
 the bobbin thread
 to match because that will
be on the back of the block...
you will only need to
change the top thread
 to match applique shapes.

This block was really fun
for me to make and design as well.
Did you know that the pineapple
was a symbol of Welcome in colonial times?
It's one of the reasons that
I wanted to include it in this quilt:)

WELCOMING and CHEERFUL
should measure 16 1/2" square
after trimming it up with the ruler:)

It will finish at 16" square
after sewing it into your quilt:)

And speaking of sewing...
after this block is completed
you can sew row three together
and add it to rows one and two.
!YaY!

I love how the first eight blocks
look on my sewing room design wall...
now I can add block nine:)

Thanks for "tuning in" for the
block nine tutorial and I will
be back here next week to start
on the last row with block ten!!
xx
