Mercantile Sampler Sew Along - Week Eleven - Quarters and Dimes Block!!

"QUARTERS AND DIMES BLOCK"

Welcome back to week ELEVEN of the
"MERCANTILE SAMPLER"
Sew Along!

Are you ready to sew with me?

I hope that you will join me here each week
when I will be doing two tutorials
 weekly...every Monday and Friday.

We are making the
Mercantile Sampler Quilt
88" x 88"

The quilt is made with my fabric
 collection called Mercantile:)

We are piecing all 25 blocks
and then turning them into a
12" circle to applique onto a
 4-Patch Block background!

I detail all of the supplies
that you need to make the quilt in my
Bee Prepared post right here on my blog.

I have already posted the
 post which not only details
all of the supplies needed but
explains how this sew along works.
I have also given the links there
for the free PDF Download
of the Sew Along Guides

to download the sew along guide
if you have not downloaded yet.

Today we are making the
QUARTERS AND DIMES BLOCK

Here's mine all cut and ready to sew!

Cutting each block is very easy
because of the sew along guide
that is provided for you.

We are making 4 quarter square triangles
again today using the 4" Trim-It Ruler.
We are using "E" and "A" squares
 and you will need to
draw double sewing lines onto the back.

After sewing... cut apart and press open.
Next trace two of them
with double lines again and sew.

Use the 4" Trim-It Ruler
and trim them down to 4" square.

Set them aside and
let's make the corner segments.

Lay them out and
sew them together like this.

Press the seams open and
trim each segment using the
4" Trim-It Ruler if needed.

Okie Dokie set these aside as well
 while we sew the center
 square in a square segment.

You can use the Seams Sew Easy Guide
like I usually do or mark a
single line from corner to corner
onto the back of all 4 "B" squares.

Sew an Easy Corner Triangle
onto opposite sides
 of the center square first
and then press those seams open
 and add the other two.

Use the 4" Trim-It Ruler if needed
and let's make our block!

Sew it together
just like a nine patch block.

Press the seams open:)

Add the borders...

Circle time!

Piece your background block.

Let's prep for applique.

Line up the points of the yellow squares
with the seams in the background block.

Pin and glue into place:)

Ready for applique!

As per usual...after applique
trim it down to 14 1/2" square
using the 14 1/2" Trim-It Ruler.

*Continue to line up the seams
in the block
with the lines on the rulers that
go both ways...straight and diagonal
for easy peasy centering!

We have 22 blocks completed:)

I hope that you will love
sewing YOUR twenty-second sampler block
for our sampler quilt...
and then turning it into a circle!

I'll meet you right back here
on my blog next Monday for the
Pine Tree Block tutorial...
xx
Lori
