"PINE TREE BLOCK"
Welcome to week TWELVE of the
"MERCANTILE SAMPLER"
Sew Along!
Are you ready to sew with me?
I hope that you will join me here each week
when I will be doing two tutorials
weekly...every Monday and Friday.
We are making the
Mercantile Sampler Quilt
88" x 88"
The quilt is made with my fabric
collection called Mercantile:)
We are piecing all 25 blocks
and then turning them into a
12" circle to applique onto a
4-Patch Block background!
I detail all of the supplies
that you need to make the quilt in my
Bee Prepared post right here on my blog.
I have already posted the
post which not only details
all of the supplies needed but
explains how this sew along works.
I have also given the links there

PINE TREE BLOCK
Cutting each block is very easy
because of the sew along guide
that is provided for you.
Let's start by making 16 half
square triangles using the
2 1/4" Trim-It Ruler and the
"D" and "C" green squares
as well as "A" background squares.
Mark a double line on the
back of each "A" square.
Take note that you'll have 2 leftover:)
Sew directly onto your
marked lines and cute apart:)
Trim each one with the 2 1/4" Trim-It Ruler
Press seams open...
add 2 leftover's to your scrappy stash!
Sew this segment together
and press seams open...
It should measure 4" at this point.
Use your 4" Trim-It Ruler to square up.
Now sew these two segments together like
this and press all seams open.
Both should still measure 4" at this point.
Use your 4" Trim-It Ruler to square up
if you need to!!.
Next we will be adding an
easy corner triangle onto
each corner of the "F" square.
Start by adding a "B" to each side first.
Trim and press seams open and
then you can add the remaining 2.
Trim and press those seams open as well.
Trim using the 4" Trim-It Ruler.
Now sew the remaining 8 half square
triangles together into 2 rows like this.
Press seams open...
and add a "B" square to the top row.
Now you can lay out your tree
and sew it together!!
Back of my block:)
Add your borders and then
it's time to circle up!!
Don't forget to make your
4-Patch background block too:)
Now let's prep for applique.
Use your ruler to center the circle
with the 4-Patch background block.
Pin and Sue Glue!!
Ready for applique:)
As per usual...after applique
trim it down to 14 1/2" square
using the 14 1/2" Trim-It Ruler.
*Continue to line up the seams
in the block
with the lines on the rulers that
go both ways...straight and diagonal
for easy peasy centering!
We have 23 blocks completed:)
I'll meet you right back here
on my blog next Friday for the
Playground Block tutorial...
xx

I love your fabrics and your blocks. One day I hope to get better organized and do one of your quilt alongs. Wedding planning has taken up my time so far this year. Enjoy seeing your creativity
