Vintage Block Along - Week 31 - Peony

Well hello there!

Welcome back to the

I'm sharing another vintage block
 with you from my
grandma's pattern basket:)

I'm using Farm Girl Vintage fabric
and one Bee Backgrounds for my block:)

Like most vintage blocks...
 this one has several
different variations and names...
one of them is called Peony
and that's what I'm using for mine
because Grandma sure loved her Peonies:)

She had a row of them
on the side of her house
along with a Snowball Bush...
Lilacs and a Forsythias.

Her Peonies always bloomed in June
and meant summer had begun!
I have several Peonies in my
front yard and also in my backyard...
in white... pinks and red.
Today's Peony is in red...
with gingham of course:)

I used one background...
3 different reds and
2 different greens for this block:)

From the background cut:
2 - 4" squares
2 - 2 1/2" x 3 1/2"
6 - 2 1/2" squares
1 - 1/1/2" x 2 1/2"
1 - 1 1/2" x 3 1/2"

From the gingham cut:
2 - 2 1/2" squares

From this print cut:
2 - 2 1/2" x 3 1/2"

From this print cut:
2 - 2 1/2" x 5 1/2"

For the leaves cut:
4 - 2 1/2" squares

And for the stem cut:
1 - 4 1/2" square

Take that 4 1/2" square and
the 4" background squares
 and lets make the stem:)

Add an easy corner triangle
 onto one corner...
draw a line or use the

Trim and press to one side before
adding the other easy corner triangle
onto the opposite corner...

Like this!
It should measure 4 1/2" square.

Set it aside and let's do the next step:)

And this is it!
Sew these 3 together:)

It should measure 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"
 at this point.
Now set it aside as well:)

And grab these rectangles
to sew easy corner triangles...

that look like this:)
They should each
 measure 2 1/2" x 3 1/2"

Now your going to add an ECT
onto each end of these rectangles...
using these squares.

Like this:)
Each should measure
 2 1/2" x 5 1/2".

Now make these 4 squares
 into 2 half square triangles.

Each should measure 2 1/2" square.

Now it's time to start
sewing the segments together.
Start with these four...

It should measure 5 1/2" square.

Now sew these three together:)

It should measure 4 1/2" x 5 1/2"

And next sew this one.

It should also measure 4 1/2" x 5 1/2".

Now lay out all
four segments like this
 and sew them together
to form your block!

YaY!!!
Don't you just love it?

This is the back of mine:)

This block would look great
in a quilt set on point:)

PEONY should measure 9 1/2" square
BEFORE we sew it into our quilt.

I've added it to my design wall...

I'm having to overlap and pin them
so that they will all fit on there!
We are going to have
one big beautiful quilt
by the time we are done.
YaY!
I'll meet you back here
next Thursday with another one
 of grandma's patterns!
xx
