Today I have a fun new pattern to share with you!
The fingernail polish block is a free pattern
and YouTube tutorial
on the Fat Quarter Shop channel.
I loved it so much I decided to whip up 6 blocks
and make a fun little mini!
In the pattern…
the bock finishes at 10" x 18"…
but for my mini I drafted the blocks down quite a bit!
It's a super adorable block designed by
my good friend Kimberly
who happens to be the owner of
Isn't it so cute?
to download the free pattern and
for the YouTube tutorial
on constructing the block!
First I chose my fabrics for the background,
backing and binding.
I decided to go with a light pink
because I wanted the nail polish colors to really pop!
Kimberly gave me permission
to give you the cutting
measurements for my
Nail Polish Mini Quilt
so that you can make one of your own!
Isn't she awesome?…thanks Kimberly:)
Background Fabric;
(A) Cut 4 - 1 1/2"x 9 1/2" and 1 - 1 1/2" x 17 1/2"
for the sashing for in-between blocks and row
(B) Cut 4 - 1 1/2" x 19 1/2" for outside borders
(add the side borders first)
(C) Cut 12 - 2" x 4" for the sides of the lid
(D) Cut 24 - 1" squares for Easy Corner Triangles
Lid Fabric;
(E) Cut 6 - 1 1/2" x 4"
(F) Cut 6 - 1" x 4"
(H) Cut 6 more 1" x 4" for the accent line on lid…
I used the same fabric for this
but just flipped it to the wrong side!
I do this a lot when I need a fabric to coordinate that is just a shade lighter.
It always works perfectly!
From a light gray Fabric;
(G) Cut 6 - 1 1/2" x 4 1/2"
Nail Polish Color Fabrics;
From 6 DIFFERENT fabrics cut the following;
(I) Cut 1 - 2 1/2" x 4"
(J) Cut 1 - 2" x 4"
(K) Cut 1 - 1" x 4" for the brush
from the same fabric..but use the wrong side again:)
From White Fabric for the bottle;
(L) Cut 12 - 1" x 5 1/2"
(M) Cut 12 - 1" x 5"
(N) Cut 24 - 1" squares for Easy Corner Triangles
From Binding Fabric -
(O) Cut 3 - 2 1/2" x Width of Fabric
and prepare 90" of binding
My mini quilt finishes at
19 1/2" x 21 1/2"
Sew your blocks together using
Then add your sashings and borders…
and quilt it!!
My quilting is a crosshatch
1/2" apart using pale pink thread:)
I love how this sweet backing fabric
looks on my Nail Polish Mini Quilt!
Thanks to Kimberly for such a
darling pattern…
it was so fun to make
and I hope you have fun making your
Nail Polish Quilt too!
Have a quilty kind of day!!

Super cute Lori! I had been thinking about print fabric and how cute it would be and you'd already put it in motion! OF COURSE!! Love the small blocks, it's all super cute!
So cute! Thanks for the great tip about using the back of the fabric for the highlight.
That is the cutest thing ever. Absolutely have to make it for my grand daughter who loves to play with her mother's fingernail polish.
Thank you! Such a fun thing to make and oh so girlie!
SWEEEEETTTTT, I am a nail tech and I'll be whipping up at least 2 mini's for my 2 BFF's I had seen the larger version last week and GRATEFUL Kinberly allowed you to post the smaller cut version!
Oh so nice. I've made Christmas pillowcases for my daughter the past few years and now thanks to you and Kimberly some mini polish bottles will trim the next one.
Everything you do is amazing and this one is no exception!
Your mini is adorable. I had a similar idea today to make this block into a quilt for some darling in the 100 Quilts for Kids challenge going on now.
Thanks for the inspiration. Like minds.

What a great idea to flip the fabric! You've solved my problem because I really wanted to make this pattern but didn't have all the right fabrics. Thank you!
