"BLOCK TWELVE"
Welcome to week twelve of the
"PRAIRIE MEADOW"
Sew Along!
Join me here each week
when I will be doing tutorials
on the blocks for the quilt.
Of course because we are all sewing
from all around the world
we all have different time zones...
But I will be posting each Monday
right here on my blog
and you can follow my tutorials
any time each week that
is convenient for you.
We are making the
Prairie Meadow Quilt
68" x 85"
The quilt is made with my newest fabric
collection called Prairie...
I hope that you all have all
received your
fabric kits by now...
and that we are all ready to begin!!
If you still need one ...
just do a quick google search for
"Prairie Meadow Quilt Kit"
to find shops who still have some left.
We are also using the
Prairie Meadow
Sew Simple Shapes
I have already posted the
post which details all of the supplies
for the sew along and how it works.
I have also given the link there
for the free PDF Download
of the Sew Along Guide
to download the sew along guide.
It's very important to watch my
Week One/Block One video tutorial
because everything I show you in
block one pertains to all
the rest of the blocks.
Things such as tips on sewing...
shaping and turning all of your
appliqués as well as the entire
process of laying out the block.
I also explain about sewing
the scrappy background.

As per the sew along guide
cutting instructions
you should have everything for your
Block Twelve
all cut and ready to go!
Everything is all cut...
all traced and ready:)
You can also see above the squares
and rectangles that
I used for the background.
Here is a list of the
Prairie Meadow
Sew Simple Shapes
needed for
Block Twelve:
1 - N-7
1 - N-9
4 - N-15
4 - N-25
8 - N-42
4 - N-47
1 - N-55
8 - N-56
You will need to cut
8 - 5" long
of prepared 1/4" BIAS strips
(cut on the bias for curving)
for the stems
Block Twelve shapes
sewn...trimmed.
Before turning...
you will need to clip the
cleavage areas and
inner curves in-between
each of the shapes that are
in the background.
Remember to clip ALL the way
to your stitched line but not into it.
If you do not clip far enough it will
be hard for it to lie flat.
Use the seam roller and also your iron
in these kind of
areas just as I showed you in the
week one video.
The shapes in my hand
do not need any clipping:)
All turned...shaped...pressed and ready:)
I pre-glued the five flower centers
on first and the two large
flowers together before
pinning them all onto the background...
The cleavage of the flower measures 3 1/2"
from the corner on the diagonal.
The center of tulip should
align with this corner seam:)
All of these shapes are pinned...
now onto the plum circles:)
away from the nearest flower petal.
1/2" from the flower and the
Next I pinned these leaves
1/2" down from the tulip bottom.
All four pinned:)
Place these leaves 3/4" down
from center cleavage and...
leaf top on this side.
1/4" away from flower petal
and the tip of leaf is on the seam.
And now onto the 5" curved stems:)
Pin the stem into a curve like this...
keeping in mind where each end of
the stems go into the flowers.
Now place and pin the
tulip stem like this...
trim end on a sharp diagonal to
tuck underneath the first stem
where the background seams meet...
Like this.
Now place the remaining leaf
with the bottom curve on the seam
and the tip pointing to
the center of the plum circle:)
All four corners look like this!!
Repeat for remaining 3 corners ...
And Sue Glue everything into place.
That is my BLOCK TWELVE tutorial.
BLOCK TWELVE
all ready for applique:)
Afterwards I will
press from the back and then
I will use my
16 1/2" Trim-It Ruler
to trim down the block.
Prairie Meadow Sew Along...
We are even closer the end of our journey!!
Because we have just finished
Block Twelve...
here is further info about this sew along!
First of all...
I hope that you have had fun
playing with PRAIRIE
and making each of the 12 blocks:)
Remember that as I explained
in the first week video
that you can choose wether to
hand or machine applique and so I
left you a link there in the
video description on how I do both
so that may help you to decide.
I showed you this page in the
sew along guide...
this is the info that you will use
to sew your sashing...cornerstones
and border blocks together
to form your quilt top.
Please Please Please
do not worry if some of your
border prints are not the
same as mine...
as long as they are the same size
it just doesn't matter.
This is a scrappy border
simply meant to compliment the
applique blocks...
so don't fret
and just enjoy the process!
that next week is the
BIG FINISH
where I show you my quilt
all quilted and bound but I'm afraid
it will be put off just a week or so
until the Prairie Wideback gets here
because I DO NOT want to use
another for the back of my quilt.
Riley Blake says it will be here
VERY shortly and so as soon
as it gets here Juli will quilt my quilt
and I'll do the post.
I'll let you know on my
as soon as the post is
posted here on my blog!!!
In the meantime...
go ahead and finish up your blocks
and the applique and trimming...
and border blocks:)
I'll continue with my other
current sew along on my
for my book
Scrappiness is Happiness!
I'll meet you right back here
as soon as my quilt is complete.
Until then...happy sewing!!
xx
