"PINEAPPLE HOUSE BLOCK"
Welcome to week two of the
"HOME TOWN"
Sew Along!
Do you have all of your "tools"
together for building a house today?
Together we are making the
Home Town Quilt
75" x 84"
The quilt is made with my fabric
collection called Home Town:)
I hope that you all have all
received your
fabric kits by now...
and that we are all ready to begin!!
If you still need one ...

We are also using the

As per usual for the first block in my

Today we are building the
Pineapple House!!
Here is a list of the
Home Town
Sew Simple Shapes
needed for this block:
1 - Q-2
1 - Q-7
1 - Q-8
1 - Q-12
1 - Q-14
4 - Q-16

3 - Q-29
1 - Q-30

1 - Q-40
1 - Q-45
You will need prepared
1/4" straight bias strips:
*1 - for the flower stem - 5" long
*2 - for chimney tops - 2" long
after both ends are pressed under.
You will need a prepared 3/4"
straight strip for the planter trim
it should measure 3 1/4" long
after both ends are pressed under.
You will need a 1" prepared
straight bias strip for the front porch.
Press both ends under and
it should now measure 3" long after.
Cut your background
14" x 16"
and sew it to the 3 1/2" x 16" grass
pressing the seams open.
Now press in half for
pinning and glue basting your block:)
Let's start construction!
First sew and trim.
Before turning clip the cleavage areas
in the flower...shrub...pineapple top
and the 3 heart leaves.
All turned...shaped and pressed:)
Now let's go build our house!
Okay...
I have several measurements
to show you as I took pictures
while doing the construction
of a few things before I
placed them onto my background
for pinning and glue basting.
The house and roof together
measure about 8 1/2" tall.
Measure in 1" from left side
of the house and glue the door.
Glue the half window 1/4" above the door.
Measure up 2" from bottom of house
to glue the two bottom windows...
The windows are in 3/4"
from the side of house...
And the side of the door.
Measure down 1" from the bottom of
roof to place the 2 remaining windows.
I glued the planter together...
Like this.
I also glued the trim to the top
of each chimney and also the flower center.
Okay now to place the house
onto the foundation!
The house is 1" down into the grass.
However this house is not centered
onto the background but the
right side of the door is centered
with the pressed line of my background.
Use a tall ruler to line everything up
like this and then pin into place:)
Now for the chimneys.
Place 1/2" in from each end of rooftop...
And tuck underneath the roof a little
so that they measure
just under 1 1/2" tall.
Place the pineapple on the roof
centered between the chimneys.
Mine measures 12 1/4" tall from
bottom of house to top of pineapple.
Now glue the front porch...
Now let's plant the flower!
Place the planter 1/4" down
from the top of the grass.
and about 1/4" away from
the left side of the house.
Mine measures 12 1/2" wide from
outside of planter top
to right side of house.
Place and glue the stem in the
center of the planter tucking
bottom raw edge underneath.
Next place the flower on top of stem.
It should measure 10 1/4" from
top of flower to bottom of the planter:)
Now you can place the three leaves...
Use a ruler to make sure that
the the edges of the 2 leaves on the left
line up with left side of the planter top.
Place the remaining leaf
in the middle of the other two
and on the right side of the stem.
Now you can Sue Glue everything down
and then check your measurements
using the 14 1/2" Trim-It Ruler.
YaY!
My Pineapple House is built...
with flower planted
and
it's ready for applique!!!!
Afterwards I'll press from the back and
trim down to 14 1/2" square:)
I included a house with a pineapple
because since Early America the
pineapple is a symbol of hospitality.
My home town was rural and small
and we all knew each other.
In my home town we were always welcomed
into our friends and neighbors homes.
We were all like one big family and
we helped each other through hard times
and celebrated with each other through
the good times as well.
Now you can see why it is
near and dear to my heart
and what I am trying to convey
in the designing of my quilt!
