Winter Hats - Sled
and Pipe Blocks

Today is Week Four for the
LET'S MAKE A SNOWMAN
SEW ALONG
If you are just joining us
and want to know everything
about this sew along and
making this quilt
for my "BEE PREPARED" blog post.
We are making the
LET'S MAKE A SNOWMAN Quilt
which finishes at
75" x 87"
It consists of 22 pieced quilt blocks
for the border which surrounds
the applique blocks in the center
of the quilt.
(There are a few other blocks
that are also pieced)
To make the applique blocks
we are using my
Sew Simple Shapes called of course...
Let's Make A Snowman!
The collection that we are using

During Week Three we did
all of the above blocks.

on this weeks tutorials!
I took photos of all three blocks
cut and ready to go according to the
sew along guide instructions:)
Pipe Block
Winter Hats
Sled Block
***TAKE NOTE***
The S-9 and the S-10 SSShapes for the sled
are half of the actual shape.
Simply trace one half on the interfacing
and then
flip over to trace the other half.
Ready to sew all of the shapes!
All are sewn directly onto the
traced lines and ready for trimming:)
After trimming they are
all ready to turn and shape.
There are NO inner curves
or cleavage areas to clip
in any of the shapes this week:)
Shaped, pressed and ready for layout.
The Pipe Block was up first again!
It's easy peasy to layout.
After applique use the
2 1/2" and the 6 1/2" Trim-It Rulers
to trim down to 2 1/2" x 6 1/2"
Now for the Winter Hats:)
All four blocks are done the exact same way.
They should measure 6" tall
from top to bottom.
After applique, press from the back and
trim down each one to
5 1/2" x 7 1/2" using
those two sizes of Trim-It Rulers.
I took photos of a few measurements
that I hope will be helpful to you.
I pressed under the ends of the
1/2" wide bias tape at the bottom
and tucked the top ends under
the top of the sled so
I didn't need to press those under.
They each measure 17" long and
are 5 1/2" wide from outside to outside
(which means 4 1/2" apart
because they are 1/2" wide)
The following photo's are
a few more helpful measurements:)
From the top of the sled to the
bottom of the middle piece
it measures about 17 3/4" and the
entire height of the sled is 19" tall.
It measures 6" between the
two horizontal 1/2" strips.
I pressed each of those ends under
and they each measure 7 1/4" wide
after pressing under.

and glue basting your sled block:)
After applique press from the back
and trim down to 8 1/2" wide and
20 1/2" tall using the Trim-It Rulers.
Okay that's a wrap for this weeks blocks
and it's time to add them to the other
blocks that we have made so far:)

Really cute! That sled reminds me of the one my older brother had when we were kids and fun times playing in the snow.
