"TULIP HOUSE BLOCK"
Welcome to week three of the
"HOME TOWN"
Sew Along!
Do you have all of your "tools"
together for building a house today?
Together we are making the
Home Town Quilt
75" x 84"
The quilt is made with my fabric
collection called Home Town:)
I hope that you all have all
received your
fabric kits by now...
and that we are all ready to begin!!
If you still need one ...

As per usual for the first block in my

Today we are building the
Tulip House!!
Here is a list of the
Home Town
Sew Simple Shapes
needed for this block:
1 - Q-1
1 - Q-7
1 - Q-11
1 - Q-13
6 - Q-15
1 - Q-16
4 - Q-37
2 - Q-38
2 - Q-58
You will need 2 prepared
1/4" straight bias strips:
Each 6" long for the tulip stems.
Cut your background
14" x 16"
and sew it to the 3 1/2" x 16" grass
pressing the seams open.
Now press in half for
pinning and glue basting your block:)
*TAKE NOTE*
When you are tracing Q-11
for the roof you will need to
trace the short version
because we won't need the
wide version for this house...
we will save that one when we do
the Strawberry House!
Okay let's get started!!
Sew all of the shapes and trim.
Clip the inner curves of tulip sides.
Also clip cleavage areas
on tulip tops and cleavage in planters
and the bottom of the roof.
All are turned...shaped and pressed
and ready for construction:)
Here's the shapes that I glued together
before pinning them to the design board.
I glued the chimneys to the roof and
together they are 10" tall.
The chimneys are about 1" above the
roofline and 1/4" in from the sides.
The door and front porch
glued together measure 5 1/2" tall.
Next place the house onto your background.
This house is in the center of the block
so use your center pressed crease
to line it up...and place the bottom
of house 1/4" into the grass.
Next I placed the door in
the center of house.
I measured 2 1/2" in
from the left side of house.
The bottom of the DOOR (not porch)
lines up with the bottom of the house.
Next I installed the windows!
I placed the windows 3" up from the
bottom of the house and 5/8" in
from the right side of house.
Top row of windows are spaced 1/2"
apart from the bottom row.
They are placed 1" away from the door.
Next...I placed the planters 1/2"
away from the house and
3/4" down into the grass.
I centered the stems in the planters...
And placed the tulip on top so
that the stems were 4 1/4" tall.
I also tipped the tulips towards the
house until the inside top points
are about 1/4" away from chimneys.
Lastly...I planted the leaves:)
The tips of leaves almost reach
the top of the stems and each
set of leaves measure 3" wide.
It's time to Sue Glue everything down
and then check your measurements
using the 14 1/2" Trim-It Ruler.
YaY!
My Tulip House is built...
and
it's ready for applique!!!!
Afterwards I'll press from the back and
trim down to 14 1/2" square:)
I included a house with tulips
because as I've said before...
in my home town everyone cared
for their yards so well.
I especially remember my
Aunt Edith's red tulips.
Aunt Edith and Uncle Jim
lived at the top of our
lane and the red tulips looked
so beautiful lined up perfectly
against their little gray house:)

I did the third tutorial
for the 5" Home Town Pieced Blocks
on my Youtube channel on Tuesday.
These are the four blocks made with the
called for prints in the guide
that you will need to make for our quilt.
These blocks are fun and really add
a lot to our quilt as well as the other
quilt that I'm making for my bed:)
first three blocks look together
and I can't wait to add even more
during our sew along!
And of course I also did another
10" bonus block as well
for my table runner project:)
I will continue the tutorials twice
weekly during the sew alongs that we
can be making our pieced blocks
in-between the applique blocks!
