when I will be doing 3 tutorials
on three blocks for the quilt.
Of course because we are all sewing
from all around the world
we all have different time zones...
But I will be posting each
Monday - Wednesday - Friday
right here on my blog

We are making the
Bee Vintage Sampler Quilt
71" x 84"
The quilt is made with my fabric
collection called Bee Vintage...
and a few other prints from my basics collections as well:)
I hope that you all have all
received your
fabric kits by now...
and that we are all ready to begin!!

Today we are making Sunbonnet Sue!!
Here is my Sunbonnet Sue Block
All cut...traced and ready to go!
Here is a list of the
Bee Vintage
Sew Simple Shapes
needed for this block:
1 - P-30
1 - P-34
1 - P-35
1 - P-36
2 - P-38
2 - P-40
1 - P-62
Grab a 5/8" Cute Little Button
for the flower center:)
You will also need one prepared 1/4"
bias strip pressed with a slight curve
and one end pressed under.
It should measure about 6" long
***NOTE***
You can either cut your strip
on the bias or straight across
your fabric like I did.
The stem has such a slight curve
in it that when I pressed the curve
(as I showed in THIS VIDEO)
it held the curve just fine
even though it was not cut on the bias.
Take note that this info goes for
ALL of the bias strips
in this quilt...but as always
YOU are the boss of your own quilt
so you can decide how you want to do it:)
Cut your background
12" x 12"
Before sewing the arm shapes (P-38)
sew the hand fabrics onto each sleeve
using a 1/4" seam allowance
and press the seams open for less bulk.
Now place your shape onto
the edge of the hand fabric...
And sew as per usual!!
After sewing and trimming up the
seam allowances you will need
to clip each cleavage area in
her shoes and clip the inner curves
in her bonnet and sleeves:)
Shaped and ready to put her together:)
I sewed my button flower center on first
but of course you can decide
when you want to sew yours on...
before or after quilting.
Because this design is NOT
symmetrical you will for sure need to
use this photo and the lines on your
10 1/2" Trim-It Ruler
to help you when laying out Sue!
Remember to start with the appliqués
that go underneath others first
and continue to use the ruler
to line things up...
Until you are happy with how she looks
before you go ahead with pinning.
Mine measures about 8 3/4" wide
from the tip of leaf to the
tip of her dress on the right.
And she is about 9 1/4" tall:)
Pinned and now my Sue is Sue Glued as well
LOL
She is oh so sweet and ready for applique!!
Yes...I'm repeating myself
but I want to say this again in
each block tutorial just in case
someone is making just a single block:)
After you have appliquéd...
press your Sue from the back
and trim her down to
10 1/2" square to sew into the quilt.

Remember that there are many quilt shops
who have cut kits for these
individual block quilts
so do a quick google search to find
a shop who may have any left!

Ok I’ve wAnted to do a sun bonnet sue quilt since my brother destroyed mine when I was little. I ordered my sew simple shapes so I’m good to go. So excited
