Bee Vintage Sew Along - Week Seven - Vintage Kitty Block!!

"VINTAGE KITTY BLOCK"

Welcome to week seven of the
"BEE VINTAGE"
Sew Along!
Join me here each week
when I will be doing 3 tutorials
on three blocks for the quilt.

Of course because we are all sewing
from all around the world
we all have different time zones...
But I will be posting each
Monday - Wednesday - Friday
right here on my blog
and you can follow my tutorials
any time during the week that
 is convenient for you.

We are making the
Bee Vintage Sampler Quilt
71" x 84"

The quilt is made with my fabric
 collection called Bee Vintage...
and a few other prints from my basics collections as well:)

I hope that you all have all
received your
fabric kits by now...
and that we are all ready to begin!!

If you still need one ...
just do a quick google search for
"Bee Vintage Quilt Kit"
to find shops who still have some left.

We are also using the
Bee Vintage
Sew Simple Shapes

I have already posted the
post which details all of the supplies
for the sew along and how it works.
I have also given the link there
for the free PDF Download
of the Sew Along Guide

to download the sew along guide
if you have not downloaded yet.

As per usual for the first block in my
Sew Simple Shape Sew Alongs
that FIRST tutorial is a video.

Because I now have my own

 Last time we made the
VINTAGE PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH BLOCK
for that tutorial:)

Today we are making a kitty!!

Here is my Vintage Kitty Block
All cut...traced and ready to go!

Here is a list of the
  Bee Vintage
Sew Simple Shapes
needed for this block:
1 - P-3
1 - P-15
1 - P-16
1 - P-17
1 - P-18
2 - P-21
 2 - P-25

Cut your background
12" x 12"

***TAKE NOTE***
That you will need to
trace the P-3 shape
for the tail in reverse.

Because we do not
need to use the entire shape
I measured 5" up from the bottom
of the shape and drew a line.

This is my new stitching line
when sewing across the bottom.

After sewing and trimming up the
seam allowances you will need to
clip each cleavage area
in the kitty front body and head.
 Clip the inner curves
in the body and the bow shapes
and her cute kitty tail:)

Miss Kitty is shaped...
pressed and ready for layout:)
But first I'll embroider her face.

I also grabbed two - 3/8"
Cute Little Buttons
from my stash.
I decided to give my kitty blue eyes
but there are lots of choices
so you can decide
what color you want your
vintage kitty eyes to be:)

I used my 10 1/2" Trim-It Ruler
in-between each step of my
layout process just to make sure
my kitty stayed within the
aqua 1/4" seams that are
around the edges of the ruler:)

This measures about 8 1/2" wide
across the bottom corners of her bow.

And measures about 7 1/4"
from the top corners of the bow.

She measures about 9 1/4" tall...

And about 7 1/2" across the bottom.

Pinned and glued...

And now ready for applique:)

After you have appliquéd...
press your block from the back
and trim down to
10 1/2" square to sew into the quilt.

Thank you Lori! I am having so much fun with this quilt. With each new block my mind shouts Oh so many possibilities! And brings up memories of my grandmothers quilting! It’s a great quilt for anyone to learn on! As always, I am awed at the precious gifts God has given and your stewardship of them. Bless you my friend! SWLC Retreater.
