Yesterday I pulled fabric for a fun new quilty project.
That's my very favorite part when I start a new quilt…
the colors and style of the fabric set the tone of the finished product.
For this one I wanted some colorful and happy prints
with a medium to large scale….
and of course with a vintage vibe:)
Because today is my turn on the
Vintage Vibe is the first book by my
super cute friend Amber Johnson
and its a super cute book!!!
One of the quilts inside
the pages of this fun book is called
" Lovely "
and that's the one I'm going to make!
Isn't it sweet???
It's a happy banner/bunting quilt which is
perfect for a vintage celebration.
Amber's pattern is layer cake friendly
and I chose to use my Millie's Closet fabric
and my Vintage Happy white with green print
for the background.
I love how the colors and styles of both collections go together.
I always keep that in mind as
I'm designing each of the
Bee in my Bonnet fabric collections…
because I like to use them all together
like one super big…
super happy …
super vintagey fabric collection!!!
Amber used ricrac in her
quilt to join the banner together.
I think I'll use
several colors for mine.
The Riley Blake Ric Racs
from thier
Sew Together
notions are perfect:)
Amber also appliquéd a few hearts
on some of the pennants
and I'll be using red hearts appliquéd
on coordinating solids for mine.
For me…
the "Lovely" quilt has
kind of a
birthday celebration vibe...
And with the addition of
red hearts
it could totally be
a birthday/valentine
quilt as well…
which is what I was going for
because
my birthday is 2 days
after valentines day and so
when I was a girl…
my mom always decorated
all of my birthday parties
with a valentine theme
and I have always loved that!!!
to go visit Amber
and to see more of the projects
in her beautiful book.
I promise that you will
want to add it
to your quilty library!
Have a quilty kind of day…
xx

This pattern looks really fun to make. It will be perfect for a valentine birthday quilt. Love how you are choosing your fabrics and how all your fabric lines complement each other.
Wow!! The quilt is going to be beautiful!! I wish I had a copy of the book. Those banners are so cute! Perfect for Valentine's with those hearts.
I'm anxious to see your progress, Lori. Sweet colors fro a cute quilt.
I'm making cute cups today :-)
Hi Lori - I love your fabric lines - major purchases for me this new
year!! I just wanted to tell you my twins were born on Valentine's Day and hate (that's a rather strong word probably) having that day as their birthday. I, however, LOVED IT! They're in their 40's now.
I love your fabric lines and have purchased your Quilty Fun book. I just need to start buying fabric for it. I wish I had a stash like you do but all my scraps are truly "scraps" of small proportions! I just made a couple of your design boards for my friends birthday. They are so simple to make, although my binding doesn't look as even as yours does. I plan on making several more since they will come in so handy. Thanks for all your great ideas and tutorials and fabric and patterns.
Hi Lori - I just LOVE your fabric lines - so fresh!! They're on my must have list for the new year. My twin girls were born on Valentine's Day - and they hate it! (That's probably too strong a word.) I however LOVED IT! They're in their 40's now.
Lori,
I love how you're making the "Lovely" pattern your own with different colors of rick rack. Thats a GREAT idea! Can't wait to see it finished!
Thanks so much for participating in the Vintage Vibe blog tour. It's such a busy time of year so please know that I appreciate it soo much!
Happy quilting!
Amber
Your fabrics are a pure delight Lori and gosh yes - they are perfect for the projects in Amber's book! Bravo to you both!
I love your fabric pull. I can't wait to see how it comes out.
Can't wait to see it finished. And glad to see you posting again. Guess I'm going to have to break down and join instagram.
When will your Quilt Barn book be for sale? Where can I buy it? Thanks! I can't wait!
Wow! I am just finding out about you! Love your blog, love your fabrics, love your book!! I HAVE to get a book.
I recently just purchased this book! Will be fun to make one of her quilts, right after I finish my Farm Girl Vintage Quilt of course. Thanks for all the wonderful patterns.
Lori, I love all of your fabric collections. Every new collection is more beautiful. Love all the patterns, too. By the way, my birthday is two days after Valentine's day also. Happy Birthday.
