Sophie Belle

I thought that I would like you to meet the tiny girl that Kass and I have been sewing for! She is my grandaughter and of course Kassidy's niece, Sophia Isabella. We call her Sophie Belle. She is 7 weeks old and doing well after being born so tiny. Her Daddy is our oldest son Ben and her Mommy is my cute DIL, Nicky.

Look at her tiny little feet....don't you just want to kiss them?

We got to take care of her all day for the first time yesterday and we had a great bonding time! Kassidy fed her and loved on her and wanted to put her in the swing and then in her bouncer and basically watch every move she made...although she didn't want to change her :)

More feet.... I just can't stop zooming in on those toes!

This is Sterling. He is our 12 year old. He brings alot of sunshine into our lives! He is a bright, thoughtful and funny kid. He likes to hang out with his friends playing video games, shooting hoops and jamming on his electric guitar. He really loves to hunt and fish with his Dad, Mr.Honey. He also spends alot of time in the kitchen...you know 12 year old boys are bottomless pits! It seems every time we turn around he needs new pants or shoes, he is TALL- he currently wears a size10 1/2 mens shoe.
This is his first time feeding Sophie and I had a hard time getting her back from him!
He spent most of the day taking videos of her and asking alot of questions and smiling and laughing at every baby sound she made.
I can tell he's going to be a fantastic Uncle.

Yes, I know: her feet again...I really wanted to paint her toenails pink but I didn't want to get into trouble!
I thought you might want to see the quilt I had Sophie on. It's a string quilt that I made and taught before Kassidy was born. It became one of her favorites and has been everywhere and been washed and hung about a bazillion times...it's very worn and old looking - perfect!

I had a good time being with Sophie and I took her to Material Girls Quilts so that she could start checking out the fabric early! (and show her off a little). I'm allowed, after all, I'm a proud Grandma...
When Mr.Honey came home from work, he held her and fed her and played with her and made funny noises for her. He's a proud Grandpa too and loves babies. I can't believe I didn't take any pics of that. I was too busy watching and enjoying the moment. I'm thrilled to know this is just the beginning of many more to come...

Sew Night with Kass- burp cloths for Sophie

I wanted to show you the project that Kass and I did on last weeks sew night. Burp cloths for our little Sophie Belle. For those of you who don't know, Sophie is my grandaughter! She is almost 7 weeks old now and doing very well after being born premature. She was 4 lbs. & 13 oz.at birth, now she's a little chunk!
I had so much fun dressing up premade dishcloths that I thought I would give it a whirl with premade diapers. I hadn't seen these before but my friend Linda saw some at a boutique and told me about them. Of course we decided to add ric-rac to ours because thats how we roll!

We used all fabrics from my stash and leftover ric-rac from several previous projects. This one is my favorite. I had a little of this fabric leftover from pillowcases that I made for Kassidys first bed when she grew out of her crib.

This one is Kassidy's favorite and of course, why not? It's sock monkey fabric like Sophie's first quilt.

Of course we did one with polka dots. HELLLLOOOOO? Do you think we could resist? Ric-rac and polka dots are project staples in my studio.

We bought premade cloth diapers at Target. We bought a half dozen and brought them home to stitch up on Wednesday while the boys were away.

Kassidy stitched the ric-rac on using the stitching line already on the diapers as a guide. She went slow and did a fabulous job!

I cut the fabric 1/2" bigger all the way around and turned it under, topstitching as I went around all 4 sides. We only dressed up one side of the diaper and left the other side plain.

This ric-rac went on top because it is smaller than the others and we wanted to be sure it showed.

We easily completed them in one night. About 3 hours total give or take, Dr. Pepper, popcorn and American Idol time...fun fun FUN:)

We added them to our stash of things to give to Sophie. What can we make her next? Does anyone have any quick project ideas that would be suitable for another sew night with Kassidy?

Vintage Monday - White Gloves

I've been away from my blog for almost a week! Spending time with family and friends has taken up most of my time, so it has been well spent.

Now it's a new week and I promise to post alot to make up for lost time!

Let's start with Vintage Monday. Continuing on with the Mother's Day theme, it's more of what our Grandmothers and Mothers used to wear: white gloves. Last weeks handkerchiefs and also the hats go along so well with these gloves, don't you think?

I collect white gloves because they are another thing from the past that I am sad to see out of vogue. I think they are so feminine and classy. Those were the days when a "proper" woman would not attend a social function or even a day out on the town shopping without her white gloves.

I purchase ones that I think are unique and well made. I am amazed at the detail and also the variety in design that I have come across. Some are beautiful and elegant while others are just darn cute!

The above five pair are handbeaded and lovely. The top three pair are especially amazing to me. I wish you could see every detail , they are so beautiful and must have been made for something very special.

These are beautiful crystal shanked buttons on the pair on the pink fabric below.

These two below have the tiniest little buttons that I have ever seen!

I have two pair of long white gloves that go all the way above the elbow. Maybe these wore worn to a formal dance or two. They button on the inside at the wrists.

These two pair below go above the wrist by three or four inches. I'm not sure if thats means they are more formal or just a different style.

The details on these above are tiny beads and lazy daisy stitches with embroidery. So cute....

I keep my glove collection in my formal livingroom (formal for me is cottage style) inside several vintage cream colored planters. I'll show those to you on another day!

I hope you have enjoyed the photos. Please feel free to leave a comment, I would LOVE to hear from you and what you think about "white glove" days gone by...
