Farm Girl Friday - Week Eleven!!!

Good morning cute people!

Today is Friday…

and you know what that means!

Time to grab your copy of

Farm Girl Vintage

And turn to page 37:)

This is my farm girl block called 

Grandma's Quilt

I designed it to be a simple block

that looked like something that

grandma would have made with leftover

fabric from sewing clothes for her family:)

There are so many possibilities using this block

in so many ways…

But my machine has been a little lonely this week

and I didn't get a chance to whip up a 

Grandma's Quilt

project like I wanted to.

So I'm depending on all of you to

post your blocks on

Haystack

I LOVE this block…

its simple and sweet and perfect for 

busting your stash:)

When posting your block…

I used my Haystack block as

 my starters and stoppers

project the entire time that 

I was sewing the quilts for my book.

I used my scrappy stash baskets...

Cut a bunch of scrappy

 strips and center squares...

Used my vintage muffin tin

 to separate the sizes…

and put it next to my machine…

and started building Haystacks!

As my pile grew…

I stacked them into this

vintage Pyrex bowl:)

They eventually turned into

 the borders and alternate 

blocks for this quilt...

Scrappy Haystack Sampler

on page 132 of my book.

It's a nice queen size 

and I love how it looks on my bed:)

I used several 

12" farm girl blocks to alternate

between the haystack blocks...

Farm Girl Friday - Week Ten! ...

Good morning!

It's time for another episode of 

Farm Girl Fridays!

Today we are talking about my 

Gingham Block

This was one of the 

very first blocks to design

for the book…

gingham is classic farm girl style

and you all know how much I love my gingham:)

Someday I'll be making a big quilt 

just from my gingham blocks

but for right now…

I'm happy with my gingham runner!

I love how it looks on my table.

I made the centerpieces by painting 

4 large tomato sauce cans and 

then wrapping them in burlap and lace.

I put a vintage milk bottle in each can

and put daisies in each one.

A simple farm girl style project!

I decided to make a cute little project

starting with the 12" Gingham block:)

A tip about choosing fabric for this block

is that you need to make sure that 

 there is plenty of contrast between

the two colors…

otherwise you will lose the gingham look:)

I started out by cutting 

the squares for the block

and then cut a few more to add an extra row

Making it a 14" block instead...

because I wanted to make a pillow and 

I already had a pillow form that size:)

After quilting…

I chose these two cute prints by my friend 

Pam's Pam Kitty Garden Collection

for the envelope pillow back.

I often use this method for the back of my pillows because

its easy to take the pillow form out…

And turn them into wall art!

These photos are from my book 

Great Granny Squared

and it includes instructions on 

exactly how I do the back of my pillows:)

I chose to use red for the binding.

I think it finished super cute and

 was super fast and simple to make!

I can also use it as a 

cute little table topper 

in my farm girl kitchen...

Or insert the pillow form and 

have a super cute pillow!

Every farm girl kitchen 

should have a gingham pillow:)

Next farm girl block 

for this week is on page 35 and is my 

Furrows Block

Another classic and super simple one.

I chose to make scrappy flying geese

and name the block Furrows

to represent the look of a pasture after

 it's just been plowed and ready for planting!

Last night I decided to whip up a few 12" Furrows blocks.

I grabbed my 3 1/2" scrappy stash basket

and quickly cut some geese:)

Chain pieced them...

And soon they were ready to be sewn into

Furrows

(background is Swiss Dots by Riley Blake in Navy)

I made 9 blocks and laid them out on the floor

for placement auditions.

Each block represents a plowed pasture.

I turned each block a different direction and 

now I have 9 scrappy happy acres 

plowed and ready for planting!

I could easily add more blocks to this quilt

but I just may stop here because a 

36" square quilt would be a super cute table topper!

Farm Girl Friday - Week Nine!

Good morning cute people!

Welcome to week nine of 

Farm Girl Fridays:)

We have sewn 15

 Farm Girl blocks so far

and number 16 block is 

"Feed and Seed"

Grab your book 

and turn to page 30

for the pattern and instructions for 

both the 6" and 12" Feed and Seed block. 

I made so many quilts for my book

 and I just had to include a scrappy quilt

 with red gingham sashing.

After all...that just says Farm Girl!

I knew that my 

Feed and Seed block would 

be the perfect choice

and look great against my

 favorite red solid for the background.

("Pepper" by Riley Blake Designs)

The red gingham sashing is from

 one of my older fabric collections

called Polka Dot Stitches:)

I used a good mix of 

scrappy happy prints and colors...

And made 9 blocks

 for this quilt!

If you are wondering which setting I used…

turn to the Table of Contents on page 3 in my book.

In the section titled

"Mix and Match Setting Quilts"…

you will see listed the different settings

 that you can use to make your own unique quilts

 by putting in whichever of my 

45 farm girl blocks your heart desires:)

"You are the BOSS 

of your own QUILT!"

I used the Square Dance Setting 

on page 118 for this one:)

This quilt looks great in my kitchen!

Next up is my block called

"Fresh Pears"

I LOVE pears!

We have a pear tree in our cottage garden

and I always look forward to

the end of summer when they are in season.

Our tree gives us plenty of 

pears to eat fresh

 and to bottle as well:)

I made a big stack of 12" blocks

because I am making a few pear projects:)

I made 16 total because I need 12 to make the 

County Fair Quilt Setting on page 112...

And I'm using the remaining 4 to make

 a pillow for the bench in my kitchen:)

I haven't decided how I'm setting the

 blocks for the pillow yet

but I'm sure that when I finish it 

I will be posting lots of pics on my

Instagram!
