Vintage Monday - White Gloves

I've been away from my blog for almost a week! Spending time with family and friends has taken up most of my time, so it has been well spent.

Now it's a new week and I promise to post alot to make up for lost time!

Let's start with Vintage Monday. Continuing on with the Mother's Day theme, it's more of what our Grandmothers and Mothers used to wear: white gloves. Last weeks handkerchiefs and also the hats go along so well with these gloves, don't you think?

I collect white gloves because they are another thing from the past that I am sad to see out of vogue. I think they are so feminine and classy. Those were the days when a "proper" woman would not attend a social function or even a day out on the town shopping without her white gloves.

I purchase ones that I think are unique and well made. I am amazed at the detail and also the variety in design that I have come across. Some are beautiful and elegant while others are just darn cute!

The above five pair are handbeaded and lovely. The top three pair are especially amazing to me. I wish you could see every detail , they are so beautiful and must have been made for something very special.

These are beautiful crystal shanked buttons on the pair on the pink fabric below.

These two below have the tiniest little buttons that I have ever seen!

I have two pair of long white gloves that go all the way above the elbow. Maybe these wore worn to a formal dance or two. They button on the inside at the wrists.

These two pair below go above the wrist by three or four inches. I'm not sure if thats means they are more formal or just a different style.

The details on these above are tiny beads and lazy daisy stitches with embroidery. So cute....

I keep my glove collection in my formal livingroom (formal for me is cottage style) inside several vintage cream colored planters. I'll show those to you on another day!

I hope you have enjoyed the photos. Please feel free to leave a comment, I would LOVE to hear from you and what you think about "white glove" days gone by...

I love them! I have a pair that I wore as a little girl and a couple of pair of my Mom's. Many of yours look so familiar - my Grandma, Mom or Aunt's might have had those. I also remember wearing gloves as a cheerleader... pretty funny! Sweet collection!

Oh, I'm sure I wore some of those very same style gloves! Thank you again for sharing your collection and bringing me back down memory lane.

Lovely! My Mom still has the long (elbow length) ones that she wore to her prom. They are like the long ones you have. I am amazed at how tiny my Mother was at that age, the gloves haven't fit me since I was about 12! The funny thing is, we are about the same build now! Thanks for sharing your collection!

Lori they are just adorable.
Have you ever considered writing a book about things that have gone out of style but shouldn't have?

What a neat collection - makes me feel somewhat old because I did wear short white gloves with my wedding dress - they were still "in" in the early '70's. It was so hot that day I remember the sweat running down my arms causing me to worry if I would be able to get the gloves OFF at the appropriate time.

I adore vintage gloves - and hats, and purses, and everything else, lol - I had some of my grandmother's that I wish would fit me. I think we wouldn't be getting sick so much or worry about flu if we all wore gloves like our mum's did!

I've never heard of collecting gloves. We used to have gloves from my mom that we inherited when she passed away. But the kids played with them with the dress up box, and they are long gone now. Wish I'd saved them.

Oh white gloves. I have a love for them too, of course! My aunt worked in a glove factory when I was growing up. SHe never drove a car. She walked to work, walked home for lunch and back and then home at night. She was always trim and healthy. She lived to 100. She was amazing. More like my grandmother than aunt. Seeing those gloves gave me such good memories. She would bring us gloves (seconds, you know) and we always had a drawer full of white gloves. If I was really desperate when it snowed and couldn't find mittens I would wear a pair of those outside! haha I could so go back to look in that glove drawer! sigh long gone

Just love the gloves. I remember wearing white gloves to church on Sundays, and wearing the long gloves to go to proms. I still have several pair that are displayed with my teacups.
