Vintage Monday...luncheon set

It's time for "Vintage Monday" again...yay!
I've really been slacking in showing you some of my vintagey things ...so I'm trying to get back on track with that starting this week.

Today I wanted to show you this mint condition ...still in the box luncheon set that my sweet friend Rae Ann gave me for my birthday last month.

Do any of you remember using luncheon sets? I sure do. There were so many different kinds out there.
My Mom had a large set of them that she always used...just for special luncheons. When she needed more like for a wedding or baby shower, we would use my Grandma's and or my Aunts.
I think everybody had luncheon sets back in the day didn't they?
Now everyone seems to use paper goods for luncheons and they don't use these anymore....except me. I still use them (but I guess that doesn't suprise you!)

As I mentioned, the trays and cups are still in the box which I absolutely love!
I like to see how they packaged everything and all about the advertising graphics and such.
I also like the fact that the set is easy to store in the box...

Look how cute the design is and the colors are so 50's!
I can't wait until spring really gets here so that I can use these out on my patio in the garden.
Lemonade and chicken salad sandwiches just taste so much better on a luncheon set.

These are the graphics inside the box....what can I say except ADORABLE!
So vintagey cute.
I just adore my friend Rae Ann who is so generous and knows just what I like.
She found this set while on vacation with her husband and brought it all the way home for me because she knew I would love it. Thank you Rae Ann...you were right. I do love it.
Rae Ann has a really fun blog...go check it out here.
I would love it if you would tell me your memories involving "luncheon sets"...

I received several of these sets when we married (1960!) but they either all broke or I got tired of them. However, a few months back, I came across a set of perfect pressed glass and paid $1.50 for it. I love using them for lunch and teas. I may even start a collection if I find more at our favorite flea markets.

What a wonderful "luncheon set" Lori and "chicken salad" and "lemonade" sounds like the absolute perfect choice for it's induction into your family. I seem to remember my Mom having some solid colored ones ... not matching, but all different colors. I'll have to ask her about that :) Oh and love the Ferris Wheels below too :)

Mine aren't as 'cute' as yours. I have about 4 sets of the clear ones that were used at my Wedding Reception. Back in the day of 'no paper plates'. I felt sorry for all of the RS ladies that had Kitchen Duty that night. My mom used them for Bridal showers and Baby showers. I think I saw a cupboard FULL of them at our Church Building when I was looking for something else...

My mother had a set of depression glass luncheon plates (matching bowls, small plates, glasses). My mother used them often for years for luncheons and special occasions. I kept them and only had 4 luncheon plates, 5 salad plates and have often wished I had enough for my family to use. For Christmas I opened a box from my husband and it was enough to make a service for 8! Hurray for thoughtful husbands and ebay.

That Rae Ann is something else. She really knows how to "find" the perfect things as she goes thrift store shopping. The luncheon set is so YOU! And I agree, the graphics on the box were wonderful. I think we need a quilt fabric to match, don't you?

Ooooo . . . I love luncheon sets. What a wonderful idea that seems to have lost its luster. I have a china luncheon set, but would love to find a more casual set like your new set.

I have puchase several singles before--just a ple and a cup so mine don't match but the are crystal type. I haven't used them lately but tehy are ready when needed.
Last summmer I bought two plate and bowls-they look like milf glass -the bowl takes the place of the cup. Great for soups or chili.

Two years ago I had a baby shower for my daughter. We invited over 30 people and they all showed up! For weeks before the shower I scoured antique shops and ebay for the clear glass luncheon sets. I had my mom, sisters and friends on the lookout too. I actually collected thirty sets! We had a great day...it was a pink explosion! Twin girls! We had pink lemonade, pink cakes, pink chocolate covered strawberries...well, you get the picture.

I love the vintage luncheon set. I've never seen anything like that in the consignment shops, where did your friend find it?

I don't remember any luncheon sets. Yours is beautiful by the way..... I do remember my mother and grandmother serving little sandwiches and dessert squares on luncheon plates. I have luncheon plates myself, but I thought everyone did.

I love your luncheon set! I've never seen one like it! I love luncheon plates. I have some glass ones (I think maybe from the 40's), and there's even a spot that's for a cigarette and little ashtray. How gross is that... but so cool too. The past is filled with elegance and disgust - but I find it so kitchy and odd that I like it.

I just stumbled on your blog somehow i don't remember. I love your little lunchon set. I have some and can find quite a few more at my Mothers house. We never would have used paper plates and cups back then. I just love your music and some times pull up your blog when I'm working and just turn up the volume.

I am so happy that you love your luncheon set. It really is you and from the moment I saw it... I knew right where it belonged... so I hauled it home. I hope you got the e-mail yesterday showing the other one I saw.
I certainly adore you too Lori! I must say... you are such an inspiration to me.
Hugs!
