Hello quilty friends!
Thanks for joining me for the
Strawberry Crush Sew Along
WEEK TWO
We are making the
STRAWBERRY CRUSH QUILT
66" x 73"
We are using my
latest fabric collection
BERRY and SAGE
to make our quilt!
If you would like to see everything
about this collection including
all of the new patterns and notions,
to view the storyboard!
The sew along began on
May 18th, 2026
and you are invited!
The sew along will take place
here on my blog,
and also on my
for week one.
I have done the week one video
so please
to watch it!
to read the week one blog post:)
If you don't have your kit yet
just do a quick google search of
Strawberry Crush Quilt Kit
and hopefully you will
still be able to find one.
If you purchase the kit in the box,
the sew along guide and Sew Simple Shapes
are included in the box.
If you are purchasing the fabric kit only
to download the free sew along guide
because you will need it!
You can also purchase the
Sew Simple Shape set seperately
if you purchased yardage and not the kit.
This week I wanted to show you
my machine applique on the block that
we did together in last weeks video.
I used all 5 colors in the Thread Set.
The Latte color is what I used for
the flowers, the yellow flower centers
and also the light pink oval scallop.
The other colors I used to
match the applique color and kept
the bobbin thread Latte for all of them.
Here's a few close ups!
I do backstitch a couple of
stitches when I start and stop.
After I appliqued the shapes onto the oval,
it was time to applique
the oval onto it's background:)
I like the way it turned out
and it was easy peasy and fun to do.
A close up of the scallop edge
applique onto the background:)
Okay!
Now that the applique on this
first block is complete,
let's talk about trimming it up!
First I use the 14 1/2" Trim-It Ruler.
Use the lines on the ruler to line up and center the scallop oval,
then trim both sides.
It should measure 14 1/2" wide now.
Next grab the 12 1/2" Trim-It Ruler,
And trim the top and bottom to 12 1/2".
Again, using the lines
on the ruler for centering.
Now your block measures
12 1/2" tall x 14 1/2" wide...
And it's time to add
the easy corner triangles.
You will need one for each corner.
You can mark your sewing line down
the center or you can simply use the
Seams Sew Easy Guide like I do.
Trim off an approximate 1/4" seam allowance
and then press the seams open.
Fun and done!!
Here's the back.
Now we will do the same thing
for the remaining 11 blocks:)
All of my sashings and cornerstones
are cut according to the sew along guide.
All of the instructions for putting the
quilt top together when it's time
are in there as well.
I laid block one out on my design wall along with a few of the sashing strips
and cornerstone squares,
to give you a peek at how the
secondary block pattern emerges
after sewing all of the blocks together.
Sew cute!!
I'm just have to say that I think
this quilt is fun to make
and after I finished up this first block,
I continued making all of the shapes for
the rest of the blocks.
one color at the same time,
for example, doing all of the reds
in each block before
I move onto the next color.
I'll meet you right back here
next Monday when I'll show you
my finished appliqed scalloped ovals
and talk about finishing up the quilt!
Until then...
have a Quilty kind of day:)
xx
