Welcome to the BIG FINISH of the
HONEY BEE GARDEN SEW ALONG!
to download the free sew along guide
for this quilt.
to read my Bee Prepared blog post
and find out how my sew along works!
Together we made the
Honey Bee Garden Quilt
which finishes at
72" x 86"
To make the appliqué blocks,
we used my
Sew Simple Shapes called of course...
Honey Bee Garden!
The fabric collection that we used
for the quilt is...
GENTLER TIMES!!
blog for the flying geese
in all of the borders.

for Week Five
Except for one exception lol!
I noticed that in the border
there are two spots
where the same fabric meet...
Or the exact same color.
That will work fine of course
but I thought it would be an
easy peasy switch out
so here is what I did:
Here are the top rows
of those two borders un-picked,
top left and top right.
I simply kept them in the
row of four squares
but turned them over...
and sewed back on like this.
The aqua and blue meet up
on the left top border but
that doesn't bother me at all!
Okay! now borders are all ready
to sew together and again,
all of those directions and
measurements are in the guide.
And now that the applique is complete
it's time to trim up the blocks!
I used the
8 1/2" x 10 1/2"
Trim-It Ruler
and did two opposite sides first
and then the remaining two sides:)
Easy Peasy!!
I trimmed them all in about
30 minutes and they are
Ready to go!
I trimmed up the large center block to
20 1/2" wide x 28 1/2" tall
so that it was ready to sew into the quilt.
I of course used the
20 1/2" Square Trim-It Ruler
for the sides.
I just started at the bottom...
keeping everything straight
using the lines on the ruler
just as I did during layout
as I worked my way up.
When the sides were trimmed
I placed the ruler at the bottom
like this leaving about 1" of the
ruler below the beehive
which would leave about 3/4"of
background after sewing into the quilt.
Then I just used the measuring tape
for that last cut across the top...
I placed a pin in the 28 1/2" mark...
and used the ruler to make sure that
last cut is straight like the others!
cut and prepared as well!
As per usual,
as soon as I get it back
from the quilter
I'll take lots of photos and
add them to this post
so stay tuned!!
