Hello quilty friends!
Today is the day for the very first
tutorial in the
SAY-IT Sew Along
Last month I did the
"Bee Prepared"
post that explains everything that
you need to know about this sew along
if you are just joining and
to download the free sew along guide.
We are using the
TYPE/ography
fabric collection...
The GLYPH Sew Simple Shapes
and the LETTERS Sew Simple Shapes
To make these two banners for winter:)
I did a video tutorial on my
YOUTUBE Channel
to show you how to make the banner shapes
that the letters (or numbers) go on
as well as how to make the letters too:)
to watch my video

I took several photos for you
as I made my letters...
And also as I traced each banner shape.
I know that I explained all of this
in the video but I also think
that a few pictures is nice thing
to be able to refer to as needed:)
*NOTE*
In this photo I had not yet added
the top center shape for the "R"
*I made mine using the same method
that I made the letters but I wanted
to let you know that there is
another way to make these
smaller pieces if you choose to.
I did that method for the carrot noses
on the snowman...so when you
sew below how I did those,
you can decide which way that
you want to do your smalls:)
"MERRY" is ready for hanging!
Next up is a few photos of the trees:)
Notice that after I sewed the trees,
I pressed the seams open as per usual
EXCEPT the bottom seam
I pressed down towards the trunk.
I love these scrappy
"CHRISTMAS TREES"
looking like they are
fresh from the tree farm:)
Sew fun!!!
Next up are the snowman photos....
Okay here's where I tell you about
an alternative method for the smalls.
This is the shape used for the carrot,
(It doubles as the inside of the letter A too)
Take your square of fabric and
fold it in half (wrong sides together)
with a little Sue Glue sandwiched
in the middle, then press.
Trace the shape onto the
double thick fabric and then
cut out on the traced lines...
And Sue Glue into place.
You can top stitch or
appliqué it down easy peasy!
I sewed my snowman button eyes
on with 3 strands of
DMC listed in the guide.
They need their faces
but first the mitten pictures!
*Remember to trace one of them in reverse*
A few Cute Little Buttons on the cuffs!
"LET IT SNOW!"
Now it's ready for my winter decor:)
I'll use these two double fold binding strips
(I did NOT cut them on the bias)
to hang the stockings and the trees.
if you need to see a video where I
show how I run my fabric strips
through the bias tape makers.
After I had sewn my winter banners,
I put them on my design wall
for a few final photos!
I am so excited about these
and am very happy to have
S.S.Shapes letters and numbers.
The possibilities are endless!!!
I will meet you right back here in
January for the Spring Banner tutorials:)
Until then,
HAPPY SEWING
xx
