Hello quilty friends!
Today is the day for the second
tutorial in the
SAY-IT Sew Along
"Bee Prepared"
post that explains everything that
you need to know about this sew along
if you are just joining and
to download the free sew along guide.
We are using the
TYPE/ography
fabric collection...
The GLYPH Sew Simple Shapes
and the LETTERS Sew Simple Shapes
For the kick off to this sew along
I did a video tutorial on my
YOUTUBE Channel
to show you how to make the banner shapes
that the letters (or numbers) go on
as well as how to make the letters too:)
to watch my video
The same tutorial applies to making
the banner shapes and letters
for the spring banners too.
You will find all of cutting
and fabric information in the guide:)
Okay let's do this!
I started by sewing all of the
shapes that use interfacing
and clipping all inner curves
and cleavage areas.
This includes all of the letters...
And the four rectangles.
The four frames do not use interfacing
but backing fabric instead.
Trace onto the wrong side
of the front pieces then place right sides
together and stitch directly
onto the line just like I showed you
in the week one video.
Do the same for the ten heart shapes.
For these I trace half of the heart
and then flip it over to
trace the other half.
Sew and clip...
Turn and shape:)
Time to go to the work table
and lay them all out for glue basting:)
Add the letters too!
Glue baste the small pieces on the A and B.
Center the rectangles onto the frame
and the B onto the rectangle...
then glue baste and pin:)
Same for the remaining three!
Now for the hearts and their letters.
Remember to set one aside because it doesn't have a letter on it:)
I decided to place a ruler 2 1/4" up
from the bottom of the heart to place
my letters to try and make them
as even as I could.
EASY PEASY and ready for applique!
I supe LOVE these!!
I'll be using the Bee Cute Lace
and the Clothespins to hang my banner
for Valentines Day decor.
The letters use the interfacing
and I sewed those first.
Don't forget to clip the inner curves
and cleavage areas before
turning and shaping!
Trace the eggs onto the wrong side
of the fabric and sew with
right sides together onto the
backing fabric like the other banners.
Turn shape and press...
to get ready for glue basting!
I started with the yellow egg because
it has the "t" and and it is the tallest
of the rest of the letters on the eggs
so I wanted to gauge where I wanted to
place my Ric-Rac Vintage trim.
I used my 4 1/2" wide ruler to keep
my two lines of trim straight
with each other and spaced evenly.
I cut it a little longer than needed
to trim afterwards and then
simply glue basted it down.
Then I glued down my letter "t"
I continued on the same with the rest
of the Easter Eggs...
adding the trim first and then
the letters in the center.
Buttons are of course optional
and I have a big variety of
CUTE LITTLE BUTTONS
that match my fabrics and
are a cute vintage style.
This is my bowl of buttons
that my little grandson Reid
plays with when he comes over.
Notice the little toys in there too
LOL
When adding the buttons use matching thread
or you could use a Latte color for
all of them to match the Vintage Trim.
I trimmed my Ric-Rac even with the edge
of the eggs after the glue was dry...
then I applied a little Sue Glue on the
edges to keep them from fraying.
Ready for applique!
I'll be doing machine applique
with matching thread including on the
Vintage Trim as well.
These Easter Eggs are sew fun!
I'm looking forward to hanging
this banner on my fireplace mantel.
I'll be using the Bee Cute Lace and
Quilty Clothespins with it as well.
Thanks so much for doing me today
for the second tutorial
for the Say-It Sew Along!
I will meet you right back here in
April for the Summer Banner tutorials:)
Until then,
HAPPY SEWING
xx
