Welcome Back Quilty friends!!
Today is week three of the
FARM FRESH SEW ALONG
YeeHaw!
We are making the
FARM FRESH Quilt
which finishes at
88" x 95"
It consists of 50 pieced
Farm Girl Blocks
from two of my books...
and
Farm Girl Vintage 2
There is a mix of both
6" and 12" blocks in our quilt:)
I'm so excited to be
sewing from these books again...
it's been a wonderful trip down
memory lane for me
and I want to thank you
for coming along with me:)
***This sew along works
a little bit differently than my
other sew alongs because...
The patterns along with
step by step instructions
are in the books, so I will be sewing
each and every one of the blocks
right along with you!
No need to sew ahead of time for me
as I usually do for tutorials.
For this sew along there is
no need for block instruction
because everything is already in the book:)
This format also allows you the choice
to sew your entire quilt at once
or space it apart like the schedule!
I did the week one video
to watch my video
and please leave me a comment
on my channel after watching the video:)
All are 6" finished blocks and
from the first book
Farm Girl Vintage
to read my week one blog post
to read that blog post:)
Here's the 5 Farm Girl Blocks for this week!
12" FARMHOUSE
12" FRESH PEARS
6" CROPS
6" EGG BASKET
6" FEED AND SEED
We are using the first
Farm Girl Vintage Book
for all of the blocks and
of course the sew along guide too:)
this week and the guide tells you
which size block that you are cutting:)
*TIP*
When sewing the Fresh Pear Block,
when you sew the easy corner triangles
onto the top two corners,
your piece should lay with the
4 1/2" width wise like in this photo.
I just wanted to clarify for you because
those two measurements are so close!
FRESH PEARS
I put buttons on the pear for this photo
to show you could use them for seeds
instead of the embroidery.
I haven't decided yet on mine but
if I/m using buttons they will go on
AFTER
my quilt is quilted:)
Trim-It Rulers that I used:
2 1/2" - 3" - 4" - 4 1/2" - 5"
6 1/2" - 12 1/2"
1 1/2" x 6 1/2" pink ruler.
FARMHOUSE
Trim-It Rulers that I used:
2 1/2" - 3 1/2" - 4 1/2" - 6 1/2"
7 1/2" - 8 1/2" - 10 1/2" - 12 1/2"
1 1/2" x 6 1/2" pink ruler.
EGG BASKET
Trim-It Rulers that I used:
1 1/2" - 2" - 2 1/2" - 3 1/2"
4 1/2" - 6 1/2"
1 1/2" x 6 1/2" pink ruler.
FEED AND SEED
Trim-It Rulers that I used:
1 1/2" - 2 1/2" - 3 1/2"
4 1/2" - 5 1/2" - 6 1/2"
1 1/2" x 6 1/2" pink ruler.
CROPS
Trim-It Rulers that I used:
2 1/2" - 5" and 6 1/2"
bottom lines didn't match up
with the top lines so I crossed
those out and drew the
correct lines where they go.
It really makes no difference
as the cutting and sewing instructions
in the book are correct,
but I just wanted to clarify for you
if you noticed that too.
Five more Farm Girl Blocks!!
Just look what we have done sew far.
I'm so excited!
I truly have been smitten with
"Farm Girl Fever"
and just want to keep sewing
one block right after the other:)
I posted about my
Farmer's Daughter Junk Journal
progress at the bottom of this post...
thank you all so much for your very kind
and encouraging messages and requests
to show my journal.
If you are one of those asking,
please scroll down to see:)
Thanks again for joining me today
in our sewing adventures
and I'll be right back here next week
to show you my next five finished blocks
from the Farm Girl Vintage 2 Book.
I hope you are having as much fun as I am!
It's been so nice sewing these blocks again
and revisiting a few of my favorite novels about farming while listening at the same
that I'm sewing each block:)
Until next week...
have a Quilty kind of day:)
xx

Other Places to find me:
I made a few more pockets this week,
I'll showy in the last pick what will go into the baskets of baby chicks.
For the one on the right,
I made a pocket by gluing two pages
together on the top and bottom...
So that I could tuck my Farmers Daughter
fabric collection logo inside!
I pieced a few scrappy happy half square triangles from the collection together
and sewed across the top.
And of course there is a place
for journaling on the back.
I just had to include this for writing
some memories about this sew along!!
I made another journaling tag to go inside
the other side of the vintage ledger
in the back of this signature.
Just like the last one I put washi tape across the top of the pocket to strengthen
it and added a sentiment and a few vintage
buttons from my grandma's very large and very full button jar that she gave to me.
She kept it in her laundry room.
She cut the buttons off of clothes that
were worn out and ready for the rag bin,
and put them in the jar to use again!
This is what the tag looks like
out of the pocket:)
I had a lot of fun playing with
several of the printables that I
have been gathering for this journal and
mixing them with vintage items and papers.
I used a print of a vintage plow ad
and made a little trifold from it:)
Here is the cover.
The picture that I chose did not
go all the way to the bottom so
I simply added a lace pocket
and made a tiny little "paper doll"
cow to live inside!
I like the fact that I can take her
in and out...just like for reals
because if you are a farm girl you
know that the cows are always getting out!
On one outside page of the trip fold
I made a little belly band and then
made a little ear of corn to live inside.
I used bees wax on this printable corn
because I love the look and I'll tell you
more about that next week:)
Here is the inside of the trip fold.
I covered each section with
vintage book page and then added pockets
with prints of my Farmers Daughter fabric.
I had fun making these cute little tags
and cards to go inside.
There are so many printable and digitals available for junk journaling
in just about any theme
that you are looking for...
of course I love vintage to go with
whatever type of journal
that I am making at the time.
And there are so many beautiful
digital paper kits out there too!
We are lucky to have so many amazing
digital kit designers in
the junk journal community.
Just look on YouTube and search Junk Journal
and you will have a plethora of
videosand channels to watch!
I am using my fabric prints put into paper
for this journal because it's all
about Farmer's Daughter and this sew along
and my own farm memories:)
I sure am having fun with it!
I like to make large journaling spaces
as well as small ones and so
these little tags are perfect for that.
This is what the outside
of my trifold looks like.
I decided to clip it on this page
next to the vintage sheet music.
Notice the title of the song and
what is "waving" in the field
on the cover of my tri fold:)
Speaking of larger journaling spaces,
I made two on the back of these
vintage seed catalog ad pages.
I made two coin envelopes to tuck them inside.
I clip these envelops
into my journal as well...easy peasy!
Remember this mailer envelope
that I showed you in my video?
I tuck all kinds of things in there as I
come across them around my house
that I think would be good
to use for my farm journal.
That includes junk mail, notes or thank you cards and packaging of all kinds etc.
I belong to the NPI silks club at
Fat Quarter Shop and every month
when I receive my silks,
I put them in my drawer for stitching and
then promptly make a tag
from the card it comes with.
It's the perfect size for a base...
I'll just cover it with
vintage papers and make it cute!
I saved this bag that came from a
local restaurant because I think
I can use it to make a pocket:)
This envelope fits perfectly in the
basket of baby chicks...
so that's what I'll do:)
I'll show you what I make
out of these things so stay tuned!
