Hello quilty friends!
Today is the day for the third
tutorial in the
SAY-IT Sew Along
"Bee Prepared"
post that explains everything that
you need to know about this sew along
if you are just joining and
to download the free sew along guide.
We are using the
TYPE/ography
fabric collection...
The GLYPH Sew Simple Shapes
and the LETTERS Sew Simple Shapes
For the kick off to this sew along
I did a video tutorial on my
YOUTUBE Channel
to show you how to make the banner shapes
that the letters (or numbers) go on
as well as how to make the letters too:)
to watch my video
"Be My Valentine Banner"
and
"Easter Banner"
were the spring turorials.
for that blog post
The same methods shown in the first
two tutorials also apply to making
the banner shapes and letters
for the summer banners too!
First up is the 4th of July Banner:)
I cut and sewed the shapes
for both of these
summer banners at the same time:)
Sewn and trimmed:)
Cleavage and inner curve areas
are clipped and ready to turn!
July 4th Banner is ready to put together...
As well as Tea and Cake:)
I glue basted the J U L Y letters
3/4" down from the top of the rectangles,
of the star center is where
I glue basted the 4 and the t h letters.
Okay now let's add the ruffles onto
the bottom of these four cuties:)
As per the sew along guide,
I cut 2 Width of Fabric strips 4" wide.
Then I cut each strip in half of width
after trimming off the selvedge.
I simply hand gathered with big stitches
along the top (about 1/2" down)
I started off with a knot
and ended with a knot,
making the ruffle the width
of the bottom of the rectangle...
Then Sue Glued the ruffle on like this!
Then I placed a clapper on top
to help the ruffle lie a bit flatter
as the glue dried.
I love the look of the ruffle with
raw edges and no hem...easy peasy!
I made my ruffle 4" tall so that
the four J U L Y letters would be
the approximate height of the stars:)
Super cute!!
I'll clip this banner across the top
of each one using my clothes pins
to homemade bias, ribbon or lace...
or all three!
I plan to hang it outside along
the railing of my patio in July:)
Okay now let's glue baste the
Tea and Cake Banner!
I placed the t and the k
1 1/2" up from the bottom of the teacups.
And the e and a letters
1 3/4" up from the bottom.
Don't forget to glue down the
inside of the cup handles.
I placed the ampersand in the
center of the scalloped circle:)
Now for the Vintage Trim!
I simply glued it down just like I did
on the Easter eggs in the
Spring Banners Tutorials.
Easy peasy again and 100% Cute!!
And I'll be using my
Quilty Clothespins
to clip these teacups and the
circle scallop as well!
They make it sew easy to
hang a banner anywhere anytime:)
Cute for Mother's Day, a ladies tea
or a friend luncheon.
Or how about a bridal shower!?
Thanks so much for doing me today
for the third tutorial
for the Say-It Sew Along!
I will meet you right back here in
August for the Fall Banner tutorials:)
Until then,
HAPPY SEWING
xx
Lori
