Hello and welcome to the
Today we are going to
start putting the blocks together!
There are six sections total and today
I'm going to do sections one and two.
For section one you will
need the following blocks:
14" Sunday Star
14" Bear Hug
Both 7" Sparkler Blocks
14" Family Reunion
14" Parade
And finally you will need
just TWO of the 6" Rhinestone Blocks...
the other two will go into another section:)
This is what section one looks like...
or you could call it row one:)
Okay...are you ready?
First of all let's talk about
the sashing fabric.
I'm using the same sashing fabric
to join all of the blocks
and sections together.
You could just use
scrappy backgrounds if you wanted to.
It takes 1 1/4 yards if you are
using all of the same print.
For section one cut:
5 - 1 1/2" x 14 1/2"
2 - 1 1/2" x 6 1/2"
First step is to choose 2 of the
Rhinestone Blocks to sew together...
and sew the 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" sashing
to the top and the bottom.
Sew the two Sparkler Blocks together also.
Okay now these 2 each measure
14 1/2" tall just like the
4 other blocks in this section.
Let's just call these "blocks" as well...
So now you have a total of
6 blocks to sew together.
You will need to sew a
1 1/2" x 14 1/2" sashing strip
between each block when
sewing them together.
You can put them in the same order
that I did or switch places...
but after sewing them together
it should measure
14 1/2" tall x 74 1/2"
***TAKE NOTE***
Each section will measure 74 1/2" wide...
they will all just be different in height.
Okay let's move onto section two.
The blocks that you will
need are the following:
20" Star Shine
Remember that during the sew along
I made a bunch of these?
We only need one for the quilt...
And so I chose this one:)
13 1/2" x 20 1/2"
4th of July Flag
16" Crossroads
4" Holiday Lights
6" Playing Card
All of the 5" Farmers Daughter
6" Six Sisters
6" Fall Flower
All four of the 5" Humble Blocks
And finally all 10 of the
3" Sweet as Honey Blocks
This is what section two looks like.
You will need to cut the following
sashing strips for section two:
2 - 2" x 20 1/2"
2 - 1 1/2" x 20 1/2"
2 - 1 1/2" x 16 1/2"
2 - 1 1/2" x 6 1/2"
2 - 1 1/2" x 3 1/2"
First step is to sew the
4 Farmers Daughter Blocks
together to form a one block
that measures 10 1/2" square:)
Same goes for the Humble Blocks...
they should also measure 10 1/2" square.
Next sew a 2" x 20 1/2" strip
to each side of the Star Shine Block.
Then sew the Farmers Daughter
and Humble Blocks together and then
sew them to the Star Shine Block.
It should measure
20 1/2" tall x 33 1/2" wide
Next up is to join the 3 -
6" Blocks together with a
1 1/2" x 6 1/2" sashing strip between.
Sew a 1 1/2" x 20 1/2" sashing strip
on top of them.
Now add the 4th of July Flag to the top!
It should measure 20 1/2" square.
Lastly...
join the Sweet as Honey Blocks together
into 2 sets of 5 blocks long.
Add a 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" sashing strip
to one end of each.
Then sew a 1 1/2" x 16 1/2" sashing strip
to the bottom/side of each.
Each of these two should now measure
4 1/2" x 16 1/2".
Sew one of them to the top
of the Crossroads Block....
then sew a 1 1/2" x 20 1/2" sashing strip
to the left side.
Sew the 4" Holiday Lights Block
to the top of the other
Sweet as Honey block section.
It should measure 20 1/2" tall
and now you can add it onto
the right side of the entire thing.
Whew!!
That was a lot of blocks in this
section but you did it!
It should measure
20 1/2" tall x 21 1/2" wide
Now sew all three together
to form section two.
It should measure
20 1/2" tall x 74 1/2" wide.
YaY!
I'm so excited to be
putting this quilt together...
it was so fun doing sections
one and two and to see all of the
happy colors and prints coming together.
I hope I am making my Grandma proud!!
Tomorrow I'll show you
sections three and four:)

Lori, I just love your blocks. I hope you don't get offended when I say I'm not a huge fan of doing LOADS of applique. I do like applique... I just get overloaded by too much right now because I like to take too much time with it. Anyhoo. All that to say that I'm ABSOLUTELY LOVING this series of pieced blocks. I love love love it all. Thank you so much for sharing all this with us. I adore you and your blocks!!!

I love your rows so far! They are coming along beautifully! I hope you will keep your quilt-along on you blog because I haven’t started mine yet. But now I’m inspired! Thanks!
This quilt is so cute!! I have gotten behind in making the blocks, so I hope the blocks will be posted for awhile so I can catch up!
