PRIM Sew Along - Week Ten!!

"LOVE and FRIENDSHIP"

Welcome to week ten of the
 PRIM SEW ALONG!

We are making the
 PRIM QUILT
72" x 90"

We are also using the

And my newest fabric collection
PRIM
to make the quilt:)

I have already posted the
post which details all of the supplies
for the sew along and how it works.
I have also given the link there
for the free PDF Download
of the Sew Along Guide

to read that post.

So far we have made
"PATRIOTISM and INDUSTRY"

for the first week blog post

"JOY and CONTENTMENT"

for that blog post

"PEACE and PLENTY"
for that blog post

"KINDNESS and GENEROSITY"
for that blog post

"BEAUTY and SIMPLICITY"
for that blog post

"HOME and HEARTH"

for that blog post

"FAITH and ENDURANCE"

for that blog post

"PLEASANT and GENTLE"

for that blog post

"WELCOMING and CHEERFUL"

for that blog post

And this week are making
"LOVE and FRIENDSHIP"

PRIM Sew Simple Shapes
needed for Block Ten:
1 - K12
1 - K13
1 - K21
1 - K22
1 - K33
1 - K44
1 - K45
5 - K54
2 - K55
*Cut 2 - 1/4" straight bias
1 1/4" long for the birds legs
*You will need two curved
 1/4" flower stems.
Press one end under on both.
One should measure 13" long
 and the other 10" long.

When tracing shape K44 for the bird...
trace in reverse.
You will need to sew these two
 fabrics together first before you
sew the bird shape.
Press seam open so it's flat.

For the K55 sunflower shape
you will need to sew these two fabrics
 together before sewing as well:)

This photo makes me giggle because
I usually put the shapes that
need to be clipped on the cutting mat
 and leave the others
 on the design board....
but this time is completely opposite!

The only two shapes that do not
need to have the seam allowance clipped
before turning is the bird wing
and the square for the star center:)

Don't be intimidated by the
cat shape after turning...
remember to use the handy dandy tool
to shape it up before pressing!

Here is what the back of mine looks
like after I shaped and pressed.
Because of the shape I did not cut
my typical "X" in the interfacing.

All of my Block Ten shapes are ready to go!

Pinning and Sue Glue:)

Here's where I tell you to
"use your ruler for placement"

At this point I did not
do the embroidery on the cats face
and add the eye on the bird.

You will find the embroidery pattern
on page 16 of the sew along guide.

I usually do the embroidery on the
 appliqués before basting
because I think it's easier.
But in this case I want my center
cat whiskers to extend onto the background
so I'll do it right after applique
 is completed and before
I press and trim my block.

A few days later...
and applique and embroidery is complete!
I used 3 strands of floss
for all of the embroidery stitches:
*Backstitch for the whiskers
*French Knots for the eyes
*Satin Stitch for the nose

Instead of chasing the bird
 like cat's usually do...
this prim kitty and prim bird are
the best of friends:)

Block Ten is the beginning
of the last row of the quilt...
only two more to go!

"LOVE and FRIENDSHIP"
should measure 16 1/2" square
after pressing from the back
 and trimming it up:)

Thanks again for sewing with me today!!
I'll be right back here
next week with Block Eleven:)
xx

Such an adorable quilt. One day I'll commit myself to doing a sew along. In the mean time I'll enjoy what you do and share.
